Eek It's snowing in Orlando?!

Residents across Central Florida reported seeing snow and ice falling as a wintry mix of precipitation early Saturday.

Freeze warnings remained in effect for Flagler, Lake, Marion and Sumter counties until 9 a.m. A wind chill advisory was also issued for all of Central Florida.

"We have had reports of a couple of flurries across Marion County," WESH 2 News chief meteorologist Tony Mainolfi said.

Viewers in Marion and Lake counties reported seeing snow flurries just after 5 a.m. Another viewer in Brevard County reported flurries along the beach at Cape Canaveral. Ice reports were also received from Volusia, Orange and Osceola counties.

Mainolfi warned residents in northern Central Florida to beware of ice on bridges and roadways in the area. Emergency managers in Marion County said deputies will be monitoring conditions on bridges throughout the morning.

The chance of snow should end around 9 a.m. as the sun leads to higher temperatures.

"As we work our way toward mid-morning and noontime, we are talking about the potential now for all rain from Cocoa Beach on south," Mainolfi said.

Very cold air will drop into Central Florida behind the cold front, which has led to more freeze watches for Sunday and Monday mornings. The freeze watches were issued for Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Sumter counties.

"We are close to or expecting to break records across Central Florida," WESH 2 News meteorologist Malachi Rodgers said.

Temperatures could fall to 26 degrees in Orlando and Daytona Beach and 28 degrees in Melbourne.

Conditions should begin to warm up by midweek.

I live near Cape Canaveral and I didn't see anything!! I checked a few times through the night, but everytime I checked the sidewalk in front of my house, it was still dry. Oh well, it's not like I haven't seen snow before!!

Our local news station is reading that it's 33 deg right now. Alot of the local stores are sold out of space heaters, electric blankets, Duralogs(or whatever they're called). They said it's the equivalent of hurricane season, where instead of getting plywood and non-perishables, they're getting all the stuff that I mentioned.

Global warming, my a$$!!

These temperatures are NOTHING to me. Electric blankets... Space heaters. Psh, I don't need them when it's only 20-30 degrees outside.

Try an actual temperature of -35 with wind chills falling to between -50/-60. Now THAT'S cold!
My cousin had a status update on her FB yesterday that read: "Ok, actual air temp this morning.... -31 degrees Far. If you think about that, it is 100 degrees warmer in the house.....translate that to summer.....68 inside...168 outside!"

Yeah, but those who've lived in Fla all their lives, like my best friend, they aren't used to this.

BTW, I've been in your area in Jan.and Feb. so I know what you're talking about the brutal temperatures. I don't know how you deal with it, but you can have it!! I was in Wahpeton, ND one Feb., it was actually a balmy 15 deg., I was in FL 3 days later, it was 90 deg. Made me realize that is a 75 deg difference!!

Florida seems to have a chill once every January.

And the only place that really misses out is...Southern California.

15 degrees in January rules! Even better if it's in the 20-30 range. As long as it's not windy, I don't mind the brutally cold temps... ND is already a really windy state to begin with. But this winter so far has been surprisingly calm as far as winds go, which has been awesome.

It's been cold in Texas as well. It does snow there a lot but it's weird for it to be 20 degrees warmer in Seattle than in Dallas.

It's not just that the temperatures are cold, colder than we're used to, but what's also being affected is the citrus industry, the manatees and the sea turtles, among other things. It's been colder than usual for longer than it usually is and all those things can't deal with that.

And PZelda, I know what you mean about the winds. The cold I can usually deal with, but add in the wind, to me, it cuts right through you, and thats what sucks!!
