Default Is Jay Leno moving back to 11:30?

TMZ seems to think so.

I have read a few articles in the past hour. NBC is shooting down the rumors but they are rumors going around that the show may be reduced to a two to three nights a week.

This was found at Wikipedia (which I know isn't always reliable, but this article is discussed on other sites as well)

On January 7, 2010, the New York Times reported that on February 28, 2010, The Jay Leno Show would begin airing weeknights at 11:35pm for a half hour, with the The Tonight Show following at 12:05am.[4] Late Night With Jimmy Fallon would then air at 1:05am.[4] The programming changes are scheduled to begin after the 2010 Winter Olympics conclude on February 28. Both shows will be preempted by the Olympics between February 15 and February 26.[4]

The change in programming is due to Leno's low ratings in the 10pm spot, as well as O'Brien's poor reception.[29] Following the announcement, the network released the following statement: “We remain committed to keeping Conan O’Brien on NBC. He is a valued part of our late-night line-up, as he has been for more than 16 years and is one of the most respected entertainers on television.”[4] O'Brien has not confirmed that he will stay with the network. NBC is yet to officially confirm the changes and a network source told the New York Times that "no final decision on the plan has been made".[4]

This was also on Wikipedia. This time on The Jay Leno Show

Though the show has been meeting the network's projections, it has been severely detrimental to the ratings of the late local news on NBC affiliates. Several stations across the country have seen what is known as the "Leno Effect", where the lower audience for Leno (as compared to NBC's scripted prime time offerings) is translating directly into severe audience drops for late local news (on the order of 25–30%),[35][36] effects that NBC had underestimated.[37] Despite meeting ratings expectations, it was reported that The Jay Leno Show would be shortened to 30 minutes and begin airing weeknights at 11:35 pm ET, with Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon's shows following it beginning at 12:05 am on February 28, after the 2010 Winter Olympics.[38][37][39] NBC has not confirmed any final decision on the matter and have made no comment on whether this is a permanent or temporary change.[37][39]

Before he left The Tonight Show, he was averaging 4.5 million viewers, and put NBC on the top of the latenight game for many, many years. Conan can barely manage 2.5 million. Conan’s ratings downright suck and Leno would be able to resurrect NBC latenight and return them to #1. Additionally, with his primetime exposure, he’d probably be able to pick up some new latenight viewers as well. Leno is by far the better talent and winner for NBC.

Conan sucks...Leno RULES!! Being the KING of late night for 15 YEARS Leno should've never left Tonight to begin with and many Hollywood insiders said that before NBC made the idiotic move to dump Leno from Tonight!

WELCOME BACK JAY!!

HOWEVER, I still think NBC should give Jay a chance at his 9 PM show till the summer at least since his ratings are slowly getting better.

There is NO WAY the higher rated Leno will only get a half hour while Conan gets a full hour. It's not happening.

Cool

It sounds like NBC is actually admitting that they were wrong to move Jay out of the 11:35 time slot and that they were wrong to think that Conan could compete head to head with Letterman. Amazing! (especially since the rest of us knew it from the start!)

We'll see. I think it's a possibility.

But if Leno DOES get only a half-hour at 11:35 and Conan get a full hour, I'd be happy.

Plus it shows what kind of guy Leno really is. In the beginning he tried to act like a good guy and step aside for Conan because he didn't want to have trouble like before with Letterman. Then, Leno said he would go back to The Tonight Show if they wanted him to. Even though someone already has that job, he's willing to push them aside for it. Yeah like this won't cause trouble between him and Conan.

I agree. IMO, Leno should just take back the Tonight Show, and NBC should give Conan his own show to air at 12:35. The only way The Jay Leno Show will ever work is if it goes back entirely to the old Tonight Show format, the one that kept him on top for nearly 15 years. That would mean more monologue, bigger guests, the old comedy sketches, and much more music. The return of John Melendez, a better theme song, and the old set could also help. Although I'd miss Jay at 10, I have to agree that he's better for latenight. It's a shame NBC doesn't seem to wanna keep him through at least the summer, though.

Let's face it, though - Conan's ratings are not good. He's lost nearly half the old Tonight Show audience, and he isn't gaining it back. Leno would be able to step back in and gain it back completely, if not adding a few new viewers from his primetime exposure. Conan is too cultish to lead The Tonight Show, and NBC should have realized this 6 years ago when they signed him to it.

Don't forget Leno was FORCED out at Tonight. Leno wanted to stay at Tonight and he even told Katie Couric that last year.

NBC went to Jay in 2005 and SHOVED Conan in his face telling him about Conan and Leno acquiesced but there is NO WAY Leno would've retired on his own if NBC never mentioned Conan to Leno.

Leno would NEVER have retired so soon since he's the hardest working man in show business and even said he hates free time. He always wants to be doing something.

Very true Julie. Read my post above. Conan gets only about 2.5 million viewers and Leno gets around 5 million now and 4.5 million when he was at Tonight.

Leno CLEARLY appeals to more people in America and THAT is why he should get the full hour and Conan can move back to late night at 12:30 ET or whatever.

Leno's monologue is WORLD class and clearly the best out there BY FAR.
