The Brady Bunch is one of my favorite shows that I have been watching for forty years. Wow! Even at that, there are episodes I don't care for too much.
"And Now a Word From Our Sponsor," Brady's do a soap commercial-Skip Farnum is a ridiculously stereotypical character. "The Tiki Caves," I like the Hawaii series, but I think this one's boring. "The Show Must Go On," It really bugs me how Marcia and Carol's singing lags behind the music. "You're Never Too Old," Boring. The Great-Grandpa character puts me to sleep. "Kelly's Kids," meant to set up a spin-off, but had no spark. Terrible kid actors. "Top Secret," the addition of Cousin Oliver ruined things, and this story showcases that. "Welcome Aboard," another Cousin Oliver episode. I hate the "movie" filming in period costumes and the pie throwing. I guess that's not too bad, only 7 out of 116 episodes that I'll skip! I am sorry if I offended anybody; this is just my opinion. |

I gotta agree with Susan Olsen - "The Snooperstar" (aka the Shirley Temple episode) is putrid.

I wonder how Natalie Schafer felt about playing Penelope Fletcher and singing and dancing with an overgrown Shirley Temple?

I heard a recent interview with Susan online and she stated that they were originally going to make a Shirley Temple episode for her during the first season. She was baffled that they waited until she was 12 to do it.

Hmm. Even in the silliest episodes, there's usually something I like that makes it bearable. But there were a few that just didn't work for me.
The Drummer Boy is one. It's mostly one running gag, and not even a good one--Bobby trying to play the drums, driving the family (and the viewers) crazy. Deacon Jones' cameo was the only interesting part. I thought The Personality Kid was pretty lame. It's remembered for Peter's impression of Humphrey Bogart, but I wasn't fond of the premise or the plot. Jan's Aunt Jenny didn't thrill me, for reasons I described earlier. You Can't Win Them All wasn't good; the "Brady kid's ego goes out of control" formula was already played out, and the writers were probably the only ones who didn't realize it. Throw in Adios Johnny Bravo, Try Try Again, Miss Popularity, Out of This World, Welcome Aboard and The Hair-Brained Scheme, and there we are. ^^ |

I don't know who I feel sorry for more........Susan Olsen having to dress up like Shirley Temple at 12, or Chris Knight having to dress up like a sunflower girl in The Liberation of Marcia Brady!
