Question Have they put this show on DVD?

I use to enjoy this show. I'm wondering is this show on DVD yet?

Not yet. Warner Brothers has the Television and Video rights to the series.

I don't know why they won't/can't put it on DVD. I'd love to see it!!!

The guys over at tvshowsondvd.com offered some info on why there might be a hold up with Eight Is Enough.

I'm quoting from this article...

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=129227617732

"The heartwarming show that's about Dick Van Patten's character of Tom Bradford, a newspaper columnist with a big family, is based on a novel which is in turn based on the writings of a real-life newspaper columnist with eight children. The real-life column and the novel (which sports the same name as the TV series) were written by Thomas Braden, by the way. The way we understand it (if we can claim to understand anything about this one) is that somewhere in all of that is a complicated legal hold-up that has to do with the rights between the entities that are behind the show, the book, and the newspaper column. Whatever it is, hopefully it can all get worked out. The studio was asked about this in a Sept. 2008 online chat with members of the Home Theater Forum, and the answer they gave was this: "We'll continue to evaluate it but for any show it's a combination of sales forecast and fixed cost hurdles." The hurdles they are referring to COULD be for the cost of the licenses from the above rights-holders."

Cool

I wish all these rights holders out there that are holding up DVD releases would realize they won't make any money at all if the DVD's are never released. It might encourage them to make their compensation requests more reasonable and some of these DVD's might then see the light of day.

I agree with you, as similar issues are holding up such shows as Batman.

But the reality is that people get very greedy and very stubborn and refuse to yield or compromise. As a result, it holds back DVD releases like this one and others.

The time to get this out is now, but until everyone comes to an agreement, all we can do is...wait.

Then maybe you might know... how did the Batman motion picture with Adam West get an official home release?

That's been on DVD for several years now. In fact, it got re-released on DVD and Blu-ray when The Dark Knight came out. The standard DVD is the same with the same extras as before, but I believe the Blu-ray has some additional stuff.

You should be able to find Batman: The Movie readily available on DVD. Good luck!
