Hmm...I cannot think of many 'Alice' episodes and the ones I can were never my favourites such as Alice's September song. Perhaps mine wuold have to be Lost Locket, Found Locket in which she makes a connection with Jan...

The one that you are thinking of is the one in which Cindy gets into trouble for tattleing on her siblings as well as other people that she knows. She does it to get attention. The secondary plot of this episode is a contest that Alice entered that was sponsored by a laundry detergent company. The prize was a delux stereo system that she generously sets up in the family room so that the whole family can use it. I thought that the episode was pretty decent. What do other folks think?

I think Alice contributes the most to the show with her special friendship with the kids and her one-liners. Some of her storylines aren't the best, but one of my favorites is "Goodbye, Alice, Hello." The kids think she's squealing on them and they give her the cold shoulder. She makes up an excuse to leave and gets a job as a waitress in a diner. The replacement housekeeper, Kay, tells the kids where Alice is and they go to the diner to get her to come back. It's a touching scene.

I had forgotten that one. That was a good episode. I think we need a list of alice episodes as with over 100 to choose from it is easy to forget.

They featured Alice once in each of the first three seasons:

(1)“Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”: Alice is convinced the family doesn’t need her since Carol arrived.
(2)“Alice’s September Song”: Mark Millard tries to rip her off.
(3)“Goodbye, Alice, Hello": The kids snub her, she leaves.

Then they had the ones where Alice was part of the storyline (I am sure there are more):

(1)“The Big Sprain”: Alice sprains her ankle.
(1)“Lost Locket, Found Locket”: Alice gives Jan a locket.
(2)“The Tattletale”: Alice wins a stereo and puts it in the family room so everyone can share it.
(4)”Fright Night”: The kids scare Alice and she destroys Carol's sculpture.
(5)“The Elopement”: The kids think Alice and Sam are eloping.

Then there is the one featuring Ann B. Davis:

(3)“Sergeant Emma”: Alice is away but Ann plays Emma.

Of course Alice was important in many episodes supporting the family: making pom-pons, painting posters, being a first-aid dummy, dunking booth cleanup, getting Desi Arnaz Jr, being a pilgrim and the wicked queen, calling the exterminator on Myron, taking the blame for breaking the vase, riding a mule, running through an amusement park, etc.

The thing that stood out for me most in that episode was the contrast between Alice and Kay. Whereas Alice would actually do things with the kids, Kay was simply there as housekeeper and not do anything else. I like how that exemplified Alice's role in the family.

Yes, and it made the kids realize too that Alice was more than a housekeeper.

I was never keen on 'The Elopement.'
