Hi I'm a new member.
I remember an episode where Alan Brady kept saying "Broken cookies and Red Balloons". Seems like he was saying it with a German accent and as if he were on stage in a Broadway performance (which he wasn't). I really don't remember anything more about the show, but those words have stayed with me for over 40 years. When my kids were small I used to say it for no apparent reason ( probably to many beers), but now the kids are in there 30's and they say it (it funny what people remember). Anyway, I would love for them to see the original. Anyone remember the episode? and where I could view it? Tried you tube, but no luck. Thanks, Dick |

Could it actually have been Carl Reiner playing a different character on the show ? He played several others than just Alan.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm positive I saw it on the Dick Van Dyke show and almost certain it was Alan's character. I'll keep looking. My cable provider isn't currently running any Van Dyke shows. Hopefully someone will see this post and remember the episode. Have a good one. |

If you have high-speed internet, you could check out the episodes for yourself at Hulu.

I think lalauver may be correct. A quick search came up with the post referenced below. It's to a political message board where someone commented on the song. See the last sentence of the first post where mention is made of the Smothers Brothers show.
Link P.S. I only offer the link because of its reference to the question in question. I have no affiliation with the site itself. |

I think in the Smothers Brothers skit the set kind of looked like the Petrie's living room.
