DECEMBER 13, 1968
Having failed the first time out, The Monkees movie HEAD is given another run in New York City's Columbia Presentation Showcase Theaters. To boost ticket sales, The Love-Ins, a 1967 Columbia melodrama starring Richard Todd and James MacArthur, is added to run as a double feature, and a new HEAD ad campaign, featuring the "falling" Monkees (in the place of the iconic Jon Brockman) is put to use. This second run lasts no longer than 4 days. DECEMBER 13, 1969 The Monkees was preempted on CBS by CBS Children's Hour (J.T.). DECEMBER 16, 1972 "Don't Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth", Episode No. 8 of The Monkees (prod. #4708, first aired on NBC October 31, 1966), was repeated @ 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on ABC. DECEMBER 18, 1967 "It's A Nice Place To Visit...", Episode No. 33 of The Monkees (prod. #4752, first aired on NBC September 11, 1967 as the opener to its second season), was repeated @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on NBC. Kellogg's™ sponsored this week, and the original commercials shown were: Kellogg's Corn Flakes (:30), Black Label Aftershave by Yardley (:45), Slicker Dolly Kits by Yardley (:15), and The Monkees for Kellogg's Rice Kirispies (:30). Trivia Footnote: "It's A Nice Place To Visit..." was one of only two Monkees episodes to be repeated on The Peacock Network while the first run episodes were still being aired before the summer repeat season; the other was the March 18, 1968 repeat of No. 39, "Hillbilly Honeymoon" (a.k.a. "Double Barrell Shotgun Wedding") (sponsored that week by Twiggy Lashes/Eye Paint and Londonderry Hair by Yardley Of London™). DECEMBER 18, 1971 "The Monkees On Tour", Episode No. 32 of The Monkees (prod. #4753, aired on NBC April 24 and August 21, 1967), was repeated @ noon (EDT) on CBS, with a new song added: "Steam Engine" written by Chip Douglas. Trivia Footnote: This was the only broadcast of "The Monkees On Tour" during the Saturday Afternoon run of The Monkees. This version of the episode redubbed "Steam Engine" would later be absorbed into the 1986 Colex syndication package. DECEMBER 19, 1966 "Too Many Girls" (a.k.a. "Davy And Fern") (prod. #4729) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) as the 15th episode of The Monkees. Originally sponsored by Kellogg's™, this episode featured "I'm A Believer", written by Neil Diamond and produced by Jeff Barry. DECEMBER 19, 1970 "The Monkees Christmas Show", Episode No. 47 of The Monkees (prod. #4746, aired on NBC December 25, 1967), was repeated @ 12:30 p.m. (EDT) on CBS. |
