Post 19th Duggar Child Born

Report: Pregnancy Complication Caused Duggar Baby's Premature Arrival

Copyright 2009 TLC
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar's 19th baby was born prematurely on Thursday night due to a rare condition that Michelle suffered while pregnant, according to a new report.

Citing Michelle's doctor, People.com reports that Michelle suffered from a condition called Preeclampsia, which caused her to have high blood pressure and ultimately have to give birth to daughter Josie Brooklyn prematurely.

According to People, the condition was discovered when Michelle was taken to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for a gall-bladder problem that brought on pain.

"The obstetrical and neonatal teams reached the collaborative decision [Thursday] that Mrs. Duggar needed an emergency C-section to ensure the blood pressure problem would not be detrimental to her or the baby," Dr. Paul Wendel told People.

"Michelle is recovering well from surgery," Wendel also told the mag. Baby Josie, who weighs 1 lb., 6 oz, is in stable condition.

I hope all this medical drama let's them realize enough is enough. I mean in the past I said 'Congrats, it's their life'. But what's it gonna take? Until Michelle dies in child birth for them to stop???

Yikes!! The baby was supposed to be born SPRING 2010 - that is WAY early. I'm guessing she was about 5 months along?? Eek!

The problems sound like VERY new developments - I mean, she's had 18 children already with no problems. I am not aware of any prior health problems... So it is great that she had this many kids and made it past 40 giving birth to children without any issues.

I agree with you I hope they realize enough is enough. I will say a prayer for Michelle and the baby. But at this point Michelle needs to think of the well-being of her family and herself. I do know the Duggars have done well in their businesses but sometimes health problems and medical bills can deplete a family's finances.

I dunno, they seem to be able to handle this well, so God Bless Em as far as I'm concerned. I do think they are the EXCEPTION to the rule, but that's what makes them so amazing. More power to them!

Heart Baby Josie

It's their life. They're not living on taxpayer dollars, so it's nobody else's business. I guess pro-choice only works when someone is snuffing out the life of a child. I doubt having a lot of kids caused her to have problems with this pregnancy. God bless this child, and I pray she makes it.

They can have as many kids as they want, it's their right. However, she does need to pay attention to the fact that she's getting older now which can affect her health and the health of the baby.

Exactly... I said in another Duggar thread like this before, they are WAAAAAY better off than the Gosselins are, and the Duggars have more than 2x the kids the Gosselins do. And just look at what happened to the Gosselins.

More power to the Duggars... I hope Michelle and Josie will be OK. My childhood friend who died earlier this year (back in January - so almost a year ago now) was a preemie baby too - she was born at about 25-26 weeks too. October 1985 baby, she should have been a February 1986 baby. She had a TON of health problems when we were growing up together... and this was in the 80s! There has been SO much medical advances in the past 25 years... A preemie baby NOW has better chances of leading a better life than they would have had just 25 years ago.

Reality Show Mom Duggar Gives Birth To 19th Child
Josie Brooklyn Duggar Born Thursday After Emergecy C-Section

Posted: Friday, December 11, 2009
Updated: 12:51 am CST December 12, 2009

Little Rock, Ark. -- An Arkansas couple featured on the reality TV show "18 Kids and Counting" now has 19.

Cable network TLC says 43-year-old Michelle Duggar gave birth to a 1-pound, 6-ounce daughter Thursday night during an emergency cesarean section. She'd been due March 18.

TLC says the child is in stable condition at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

The network airs the show starring Duggar, her 44-year-old husband and their brood. It says the Duggars named their 19th child and ninth daughter Josie Brooklyn. The Duggars' first grandchild was born Oct. 8.

The family lives in a 7,000-square-foot house, where they manage commercial real estate property. The couple has said they'll continue welcoming children as long as Michelle is able to have them.

Well said - the Duggars and their kids seem to be a heck of a lot more grounded than the Gosselins and the Octomom. Personally, the thought of giving birth to one child - let alone 19!! - freaks me out, but the Duggars are pretty financially independent and seem to be doing OK. God bless them.

I wonder how people will feel if they became jobless, and they did start living off taxpayer dollars. Would people have felt the same way about the Octomom if she hadn't been living off taxpayer dollars as well?

It's taxing on her health in the long run, and someone I know who had alot of kids said that when you get old it can cause your uterus to literally fall out

I agree taxpayers would probably feel different the Duggars ended up having to live off taxpayer dollars. Like I said in my previous posts medical bills and such can damage a family's finances and exhaust insurance plans. I have seen it happen several times. The Duggars own several businesses but those businesses are probably hurting today.

With a reality show in its third year where I've read many times that they make 50 grand per episode, and successful commercial investments they've had for years, the Duggars are just fine financially. They live frugally and are debt-free. Those parents spent more time with their kids than two parents who have to work 40 and 50 hours a week and see their kids for a couple of hours a day, if that. I know of woman, like my husband and my grandparents who had a lot of kids whose uterus' stayed intact. I think Michelle Duggar will be fine, and if she's not, again, her business. They decided to have a huge family, which isn't my cup of tea, but I don't begrudge them. I don't know if you've ever seen their show, but they really are a special and loving family. Those kids are so well behaved.
