Default My Friend Chuck

Over on the "Three's Company" page, there is a very interesting conversation going on about Chuck Cunningham Syndrome. I was the one who first brought the subject up in response to a thread about the disappearance of the character of Chrisy. One poster after me said that he or she did not really consider her disappearance as true Chuck Cunningham Syndrome. Well, one true case and point of Chuck Cunningham Syndrome is this show's very own Uncle Ed! It has been joked the Ed and Chuck are living with Tiger in the doghouse in the Brady's back yard! In any event, I would really like your feedback about the posts in response to that thread!

I always thought that the producers had Uncle ED get married to ease his character off the show.
But I don't think he was even mentioned again. even by Carl.
It's unusual to never mention your brother's name again.
And after Carl died it was never mentioned by the girls either.
It was like he didn't exist.
As for Chuck Cunningham...
I grew up with the show on Reruns, so I never knew there was a
Chuck Cunningham until I saw the 30th Anniversary special.

You have raised some very good points in this response. I would say that someone who started watching the show anytime after the end of the second season would think that the chief was raised as an only child. It is my memory that the last episode with Uncle Ed was the one about his wedding. Ever after that, he was never mentioned! Even after the chief died, the grandfather never made any mention of his one remaining son or anything like that. As far as Chuck Cunningham goes, you said that you grew up with the series on ruruns. Well, all of the seasons including the one with Chuck in them were sold into syndication. That being that case, I am curious as to how you missed his existance until thirty years later!
