Post N@N #1 for Adults 25-34! Three's Co and Diff. Strokes is why; Cosby Show in 2002

Acquisitions From 1980s Propel Network to Jump From #9
In 2000 to First Place in Quarter-to-Date Figures

NEW YORK, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Buoyed by the addition of key programming
acquisitions from the 1980s -- including Three's Company, Diff'rent Strokes
and The Facts of Life -- Nick at Nite has claimed the Number One position in
delivery of Adults 25-34 among all ad-supported cable networks for second
quarter to date, according to data available from Nielsen Media Research. The
network's leadership position represents a gain in the demo of 62 percent
versus the same period last year, when the network ranked ninth among basic
cable networks.
Among Adults 18-34, Nick at Nite currently ranks second among all ad-
supported cable networks, also up from ninth place for the same time period
last year, representing 38 percent growth in that demo. On a household basis,
the network is currently ranked second -- right behind Lifetime --
representing performance levels consistent with last year's position for Nick
at Nite's total day programming hours. The figures represent all Nick at Nite
programming from Monday, April 2nd through Sunday, May 6. On a household
basis, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite remains cable's highest-rated network for
24 hours, a distinction held since 1995.
"Nick at Nite's recent acquisitions of Three's Company and Diff'rent
Strokes have proven appeal among younger adult viewers," explains Cyma
Zarghami, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Nickelodeon/Nick at
Nite. "The forthcoming additions of Family Ties, Cheers and The Cosby Show --
three of television's biggest hits of the 1980s -- ensure even more success
for Nick at Nite well into the future."

Nick at Nite Celebrates Un-Reality

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK (AP) - While television networks prepare to flood the airwaves with reality shows, Nick at Nite is betting that viewers will soon get sick of them.

The Nickelodeon cable network is launching an ad campaign proclaiming it the home of ``unreality.''

Nick is also making the first pilot for an original adult show in nine years - in part because it believes more comedy writers and producers will be looking for work with reality shows crowding sitcoms off the air.

``The reality craze is in full swing and we have what you might call the most unreal lineup at the moment,'' said Cyma Zarghami, the network's executive vice president and general manager.

In an advertisement aimed at commercial buyers, Nick urges, ``embrace un-reality - before reality dumps you!''

Nickelodeon airs children's programming during the day and early evening, switching to classic TV reruns on when the kids go to bed.

Its summer schedule includes ``The Beverly Hillbillies'' ``Gilligan's Island,'' ``The Brady Bunch'' and ``Three's Company.''

Nick has agreed to make a pilot comedy called ``The Robertsons Greatest Hits,'' with a father recounting the memorable moments in a family of six. Actor George Wendt, formerly of ``Cheers,'' will star as the father. If it works out, Nick is looking to put it on the air next year.

The cable network believes it has a better chance to attract talent for the show with reality TV squeezing the market, Zarghami said.

Viewers may also have the chance to see the old Wendt and the new Wendt; Nick at Nite will beginning airing ``Cheers'' reruns in September. Reruns of ``Family Ties'' are also due this fall, and Nick has acquired the rights to show ``Cosby'' next March.

It means Nick will be showing the three comedies that ran back-to-back-to-back on the NBC Thursday night schedule from 1984 to 1987. Nick is toying with the idea of running the shows in the same order that NBC did back then, Zarghami said.
