I wonder how Monika (catlover79) who usually rents TV Shows on DVD from her local library will be able to get this product, if it's only gonna be available exclusively on the Internet?

Just to point out this will be a standard DVD set with bonus commentaries with the creater and cast, but will only be available on Shout! Factory's website.

I'll think of something.

I can't wait to hear specifically who will be giving the commentaries. I kept asking for the producers/creators to somehow be involved & it looks like finally at least one of them is. This will be my Christmas gift to myself.

Really a shame the first set didn't sell well. I guess those were people who did an impulse buy like, "Ohhhh, that old show. I think it was good. Let's buy it!" to find out it wasn't their thing, and so the next set's sales suffered. But they must've done well online to warrant a 2nd, and now 3rd release. Plus we all now that a majority of rare tv show dvd sales come from the internet. I never even saw Belvey in a Wal-Mart or Target.

But a HUGE credit to Shout! for continuing the series. Only 2 seasons to go!!!

I think the first set was a pretty decent seller for Shout! considering the speed they released the second set. I think the season three set was probably a medicore seller in retailers eyes and with the recession every title has a lot of competition. So the reailers only want to stock newer shows that they know will sell higher amounts and quicker than older shows like Mr Belvedere. The second set must have sold pretty decently for Shout! to be releasing the fourth season, with the added expensive of taping commentaries, even if it is only direct sale. Mr B was the most requested show for more seasons on their online poll, so they know the online shopper audience is there. I think there's a high probability we'll see the last two seasons released. They will probably be bare bones sets, but as long as they are released uncut I'm happy. Since they don't have to follow the general wait 6 months between releases they usual follow with general retail releases, there's even a good chance we'll see the series completed on DVD in 2010.

Which is why I was saying that a majority of sales (esp. ones for a lost, obscure show) are going to come from online ordering. Shout! obviously saw a tremendous response to finally getting the first set out, but it had to suffer from unimpressed viewers to see a dip in sales for set two. I'm sure the penny-pinching buyers played into it, but it's also not a show for everyone.

It does say something, though: that even with Season 2 included in the first set, casual buyers still weren't impressed with it. Despite the fact that season 2 may be the best one of the six. But there are enough genunine fans of the show for Shout! to see a profit in going to all this trouble.

Cool

Well I bit the bullet and ordered season 4 from Shout Factory. This is the first time I've bought a DVD from a website other than Amazon. But since that wasn't an option for this release I had to go ahead and order directly from Shout. I just hope they continue with this and release all the seasons of Belvedere.

There really isnt any difference in ordering from amazon except we have to pay freight. I've never bought anything directly form Shout's website either, but I haven't heard any complaints.

I know it sounded like kind of a bummer, but I still still say hope is not lost. He didn't state any acutal pre order sales figures. The set hasn't even shipped yet. So there's still time. Maybe after the set is released & reviews are posted about it and word gets around, more people will buy it. Maybe it will be a slow seller. There were YEARS between some of Shout Factory's sets like Punky Brewster & That Girl. Those were completed. Now Brian recently said he will be producing a 2nd set of the animated C.O.P.S which he said several times didn't sell well at all. If a show like that can get a 2nd life on DTC than I think there's hope for seeing the final 2 seasons of Mr Belvedere. Even if we have to wait awhile it will be worth it. We just have to make enough noise.

I really think they will. If you read between the lines I think he's pretty much saying the first sets were decent sellers. If not, why would they be releasing them so quickly? Very strong chance the series will be completed.
