Writer Jerry Birn Dies at 86 - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Jerry Birn, former writer and story consultant for BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL and YOUNG AND RESTLESS, died in his sleep on Dec. 5. He was 86.

Birn's wife, Patty Weaver Birn (Gina, Y&R), was by his side when he passed away on what was also the date of their 15th wedding anniversary. His daughter Laura Bryan Birn appeared as Y&R's Lynne from 1988 to 2004.

B&B executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell included the following in a memo to the cast and crew of B&B: "Jerry was a close personal friend of mine and the best man at my parent's wedding. He has been and always will be an important part of our lives, our shows, and our family. He had a zest for life and lived his gloriously. A true ad man and writer, Jerry loved everyone and everything at Y&R and B&B, and was very proud to be a beloved member of our shows. Jerry's quick-wit and vibrant sense of humor will continue to resonate in our hallways, on our stages, and in our hearts. He is already greatly missed."

A memorial service is being planned for January 2010.
