Default Anyone going to record "Phyllis" on AmericanLife in January?

DirecTV does not carry this channel, so if I can find someone to record it for me, it would really be appreciated. PM me if you are willing to help, my "have" list is posted.

I am going to be taping both Rhoda and Phyllis. When I click on your homepage link, it takes me to a Bob Barker tribute page. Can you PM me the link to your HAVE list?

Joker, will do. I have been taping St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues off of ALN. One of the good things about that network, unlike Retro TV, is that they show the episodes in order. So hopefully that trend continues with Phyllis and Rhoda. I am going to be putting 4 episodes per disc, at 2 hour speed, going directly from my dvr to my standalone dvd recorder. My guess is that it will take a couple months to get them all, since there is over 40 of Phyllis. Hopefully, ALN doesn't completely skip an episode, like they did with the Hill St. Blues episode called The Russians Are Coming. They had all been in order, and then they skipped it entirely and went to the one right after that.

Justin, I will set up a trade with you when I get them done. Thanks for the link to your site.

I did not know that you could dvr a show and then have your dvd recorder make a copy of it? I do not have a dvr, but I know someone who does and also gets this channel. If you or anyone has a moment, is it easy to set up/do? Maybe somewhere online I could find instruction to do this? I would love to record and have on disc, both of these shows. Thanks for any and all help.

Speaking just for my setup, my cable company provides me with a dvr, which allows me to setup series recordings for myself, much like timers did back in the day with vcrs. I then have my standalone dvd recorder hooked up to my cablebox. Simple really.

I think that I remember before that AL tv does not show edited versions of shows. I think I remember discussion about the fact that The Mary Tyler Moore show was airing unedited? I wonder if Phyllis and Rhoda will be unedited? Anyone have any thoughts? I would love to see Rhoda unedited after all of these years! Thanks!

From what I have seen, Hill St. Blues and St. Elsewhere are unedited. That said, what is annoying is the bright blue banner that they keep putting up on the screen, declaring the new ALN. Which has been new now for over half a year.

I just found this information helpful. The cable companies have said that this cannot be done, but here it is:

This is common knowledge to anyone that has upgraded from vcrs to dvd recorders.

Wanted to let everyone interested in knowing that the ALN airings of Phyllis and Rhoda which I have been taping have been clocking in at about 23 minutes without commercials. I don't know if that means that they are edited or if that's about the right runtime. They are on the 8th episode of Phyllis today and with 40 to go, they should go through them all by the end of February, first week of March. They are airing both series in order.

I too have been recording Phyllis directly to DVD and professionally editing out the commercials, if successful, the entire 48 episode run will fit on 8 DVD's containing 6 episodes each in the 2 & 1/2 speed....The episodes are definately edited to answer your question as in 1975 shows ran to about the 25 minute mark without commercials. Did you notice a very sexy (of course) pre WKRP Loni Anderson in episode #8 today "The First Date"?

I will also confirm that they are definitely edited. Most of the episodes have the beginning of the first scene cut out (the writer/director credits are missing).
