Classic Nick At Nite

Does anybody remember when NAN was a great channel? The graphics were way better, thank god i still have tapes of it from when it was good. I recorded I love lucy, jeffersons, threes company and FOL. Any body have any good NAN memories they would like to share with me? Please do and i will definitely respond because all your opinions count. I have almost every episode of the FOL on tape because i would record it ever nite when it was on no matter what time. I also would record during the taping NAN commercials only. anybody else do the same. I also have 9 of the 13 Lucy Desi Hours on tape from 2 years ago.

I have lots of Lucy and Jeannie from Nick back in 1996-96. Things definitely were cooler back then. I also have some Route 66 tapes from Nick in 1986-88. Weird stuff they had back then: The Nick at Nite movie, Turkey Television.

I used to love Nick at Nite when they showed I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched and I Love Lucy. It was what classic tv is all about. I'm so disappointed in the network taking classics off to put Roseanne and I heard even Full House will join soon. Not that I don't like Roseanne and Full House and The Cosby Show it's just that they aren't what I call classic television. Mabye Nick at Nite has changed! Oh well I just remember wishing that I could of voted for Jeannie in the poll N@N had about genie v.s. witch (I was to young to vote)

I haven't been watching Nick-At-Nite as long as the rest of you
but even when I first started watching to now things have
definitely changed,and not all for the best.
I remember when I started watching they had those ads between
shows that showed you what was on next and was coming up
after that.Then also they did a lot more shows and not just three
or four.
Let's face it the Double Take may have been a good fun idea to
begin with,but wouldn't everyone perfer to have more shows and
more variety than just the same three or four every night?
They should have Double Take night for special occasions.
I also miss Make Your Own Sundays,when they let the audience
actually vote on what shows they were going to show.

It seems odd that all the great classics like Gilligan's Island,
Laverne & Shirley and I Love Lucy even The Brady Bunch are only
shown once in a blue moon now and then if you missed them your
bad luck!

Like everyone else here I wonder what the purpose of putting shows that you can easily watch in syndication on your local
tv is for.It doesn't make sense.

N@N should be airing more classics.

P.S. With TC on TNN now and shows like Coach and Roseanne
moving on to N@N does that mean the end of TC on N@N?

Oooh, I like this thread. I can now talk about how Nick @ Nite used to be cool. I've been to other boards where disgruntled Former Nickelodean Fans unite and talk about Great Old School Nick Shows. There is even an awesome website about great old Nickelodean shows and it has a little info on old Nick @ Nite, but not a whole bunch on old N@N is out there.

I remember way back, when the shows that are on N@N NOW, were actual new shows. Many I never watched back then even though I usually was tuning in to primetime shows. (Coach and Cheers as well just didn't do it for me.) I tuned to N@N many times instead. Green Acres, Donna Reed, Mr. Ed, Patty Duke, Dragnet, Get Smart, Hitchcock, Car 54, Munsters, ect. I know there were many more that were great, but I can't remember any others. Later in the night they would even play 70s episodes of Sat. Night Live and Laugh-In. I'm thinking there was another comedy series played with them... Second City TV?

I loved the commercials back then too. There was this stint about a Milk Man. It is so hard for me to remember but I know it was in black and white. I just don't know if it was real old footage or something. Anyone recall?! There were more funny black and white ones done. When the ladies would dance around wearing big ovals that said N@N on it (Thats the classic logo) that was weird! But I loved it all.

If this is all way too far back for you guys, N@N still ruled through most of the 90s. I Love Lucy came in 93, I believe, and that was the best. You all basically summed up the rest with mentioning other great shows. Some of the summer themes were hilarious. The last two summers have sucked... but then, N@N sucks as a whole now. It really ticks me off! I keep hoping it will become great again. I'm pretty much dreaming. If Nick heard me complaining, they would probably tell me, go to TVLand. The problem is, that's not so swell either!

Even TVLand sucks now. What is up with that? I mean, no Jeannie, no Bewitched...what is wrong with these people? I remember the good old days of N@N when they had those Block Party Summers! That was so awesome!

I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched are supposed to return to TVLand this June. Apparently, they have the rights to air, it's just a matter of scheduling.

Yes! I really enjoyed seeing Green Acres, Mr. Ed, The Dick Van Dyke Show (which ALWAYS aired in Prime Time @ 9:PM, where it belongs), My Favorite Martian, et al.

Remember "Vertivision" (aka "Block Party Summer")? I sent for the refrigerator magnet the 2nd(?) year of "BPS". I think the schedule was: "Mary" (Tyler Moore) Mondays, "Lucy" Tuesdays, "Bewitched" Be-Wednesdays, "Jeannie" Thursdays and "Sgt. Joe" Fridays.

That was new footage, shot in black-and-white, just for the N@N promo.

Was that the one that looked very late 50s or early 60s? Tight dresses, stiletto heels, beehive hairdos? Kinda reminds me of a party at the Petries? If so, I don't know where it comes from, but it could just be stock footage of God-knows-what.

Well. let's face it:
1.) Nick @ Nite has obviously changes its mission/format/target audience, whatever. I've stopped complaining. I've also stopped watching.
2.) TVLand may just be experiencing a dry spell. At least, I hope that's all it is. Since their coverage area has grown a lot over the past couple years, they may be trying to attract a large, if not loyal, audience for quick revenue. Again, I hope that's all that is.

I like TV Land better then Nick. I read that Mr.Ed and Green Acres might come back on TV Land. Mr.Ed is coming September 2003. I read it off TV Land message board.

Well, that's not what I was referring to, but I now remember that as well! I was talking about these commercials where you could only see the ladies legs, because the rest of them was covered by the big oval logos that said "nick at nite." I can remember the tail end of some song the commercial would be playing (maybe its actually the song being played in the tight dresses, stiletto heels, beehive hairdos--I was only about 5 its hard to remember!) The only thing I can recall of the song-- "da da da no-fatty-acids. You-can-count-on-NICK... AT... NITE." LOL

I reread my last post, and I just got so caught up with talking about classic N@N I didn't make myself clear at all. Along with the Milkman commercials, the black and white ones I was referring to were similiar to the Milkman--so they must have been new footage shot in black and white. I think the beginning and end of the commercials would have this animated radar thing flashing because the commercials were done (humorously) to look like public-service anouncements.

Everyone here that can't remember this stuff must think I'm a kook! But that-was-old-school-NICK...AT...NITE.

That may be, but it still sucks. I don't understand why TV Land keeps airing shows like Sanford and Son, or why they show Gilligan's Island about four times a day when they don't show Bewitched or Jeannie at all. It just makes me mad. And what happened to Green Acres and Petticoat Junction?

I like N@N, especially since they have Cheers, and Wings is coming real soon, but I think they definitely could have a better variety of programming, maybe even beome a full fledged network instead of being part of Nickelodeon.

They did become a full fledged network. It's called TV Land. But I do hear what you're saying. The way I think the programming would be better is if they didn't show 4 or even 2 episodes of one program during the night. They could also start earlier in the night like they used to and fit in a couple more shows... But what am I coming up with ideas for? I don't care for the "modern TV classics" theme the network has adopted anyhow.

Classic Nick @ Night was simply the best. I haven't watched NAN in years ... but back in the day, it was fantastic. If anyone has any tapes of Turkey TV, mail me and maybe we can work out a trade or something. I haven't seen it in years ... my guess is that it isn't as good as it was when I was in Jr. High!

CAr 54 was definately one of the best shows on NAN and ironically, the one show that hasn't been seen nationally since the early 1990's when HA!/The Comedy Channel showed the chopped-up episodes. 10 years without CAR 54 is a shame.

I loved the old NAN also, I remember the Happy Days vote, where the viewers got to pick between the chachinated or dechachinated episodes and I also remember the dueling Darren's from Bewitched where the viewers voted on which Darren they liked best. Those shows were awsome.
