The Simpsons is set to complete 20 years on TV, a record breaking feat which makes it world's longest-running animated sitcom and prime-time US show.

The cartoon comedy show had first aired on December 17, 1989.

The creator of the show Matt Groening is heard to be organizing massive birthday celebrations, at Fox studios in Hollywood, for the occasion.

Also, on-screen "surprises" are reportedly in store for fans, apart from chances of a sequel to 2007's Simpsons Movie.

Meanwhile, Groening and his team have listed their favourite episodes in America's TV Guide magazine.

Homer's Phobia, from 1997, when he fears a new friend is gay, topped the list.

The show has won 25 prime-time Emmys, reports the Daily Express.

A total of 448 episodes have been aired in 120 countries up till now.

That's nothing to sneeze at!! Plus, some of the members on this board weren't even born yet when the show debuted.

I felt the same way about "threes company" and the new *really sick* version of Battlestar Galactica .

Maybe you should just mellow out a little and you'll actually live to see the final episode of The Simpsons.

Not too many other shows have been on in four different decades!

Has there been any other prime time scripted series that that can be said about?
