Default Was Chrissy's exit ever explained??

I know that when Suzanne Somers was battling with producers over her salary, then penalized her by relegating her to one minute at the end of each show, where she was calling from a sick relative or friend's house where she was staying to help them get well.

I don't recall, however, if when season six started, if her permanent departure was ever explained. Did the sick friend/relative die or did she just decide to stay there for some other reason.

I don't recall it ever being explained. So, as far as I know, Chrissy was consigned to sitcom limbo.

Was there any explanation offered why Chrissy never ever came back??

No, the only explaination that was given, was that Chrissy was visiting her sick mother.

I hate when they do that; just have characters leave with no explanation. I don't get why shows create these characters and then don't realize that the audience starts to connect with them. It's like having a friend who just leaves without warning.

That's what I thought. Yeah, it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't have explained it somehow. I understand that obviously Suzanne Somers was not going to come back to say goodbye as Chrissy, but they could have at least shown a scene where say, Jack and Janet are discussing the fact that Chrissy had left for good. Or even one of them on the phone with her or something.

Hell, even Cindy got an explanation when she moved out and went to school -- though I think her character got the shaft by the producers.

I think the writers created a situation for Chrissy so the character could return if the negotiations were worked out with Somers and the Producers. So if it was worked out the writers could say her mother was doing a lot better and that Chrissy decided she no longer needed her care.

Since the negiotations never worked out, the viewers can just assume that Chrissy's mother was never healthy enough to live alone and that Chrissy decided it would be best if she never came back.

You're probably right, but it was still a chickens**t way to do it, though.

Well since she was fired they had to leave the door open for a possible return. Now in James Evans case, he was KILLED because the actor was fired and the writers knew there was no possibility of a return.

Well, I get them wanting to "leave the door open", but they could have had Jack or Janet make some reference to her not coming back at the time, or what happened to her belongings. Even when Cindy moved out, and they were looking for a new roomie, no mention of Chrissy!

I wish they could have Janet and Jack at the beginning of the 6th season, mention how Chrissy wasn't coming back. On "Petticoat Junction," they did that for Kate Bradley in the 7th season.

Jack: You know I'm gonna miss her.

Janet: Me too....but we have to accept the fact that Chrissy made the right decision. Taking care of an ill parent is a huge responsiblity and I've made sure I sent all of her stuff. Luckily, she also got some office work that can be done at home, so she's there for her mom.

Jack: I'm sure the Reverend is also relieved to have her back home.

Janet: Yea.....he never was too sure about you was he?

Jack: no, he wasn't was he......well now with Cindy going to UCLA, we better find a new roomate, huh?

Janet: Yea, how bout someone tall, dark, and handsome?

Jack: With moi around, why do you need that?

Janet: I think you just answered my question.

Jack: Hardy har har......

I like your version of how the producers should have handled Chrissy's leaving the show.

They should have explained Chrissy leaving a little better. Maybe the producers thought that the salary dispute was big news, they probably assumed that viewers allready knew. That season 7 episode where that guy was interviewing Janet, Terri, and Jack for the newspaper. Janet says, " I was living here with 2 girls and Eleanor got pregnant, then we got Jack." She NEVER mentions Chrissy. In the series finale, they should of had Chrissy return for the wedding.

Since it was such a bitter public dispute, maybe the producers decided to not mention the character of Chrissy anymore as a way to shun Suzanne Somers even further after firing her.

With other well-known disputes that resulted in the departure of a star on a show (Farrah Fawcett- Charlie's Angels, Delta Burke- Designing Women, Shannen Doherty, Beverly Hills, 90210), they at least explained the exit of the character.
