Default Pre-series specials rerun airdates

I recently received copies of some of the early NBC specials that aired in 1987 and 1988 before UM became a weekly series. However, these were all rerun versions and had some slight differences from the versions I had seen previously.

12/30/87 - rerun of special 2 with Karl Malden. Jon Burns and Robert Weeks had been captured so the updates about their arrests were transplanted onto their individual stories. No update for Wanda Jean Mays or Kyra Cook. The Rolex Robbers segment was not updated either, however, the word "captured" was superimposed over the picture of Anna D'oria. No details about her capture were revealed.

4/25/88 - I think this is a rerun of special 3. I have not watched it yet.

7/13/88 - rerun of special 5. Jerry Strickland/Missy Munday story was updated with info on their arrests. Charles Scheel story was updated with info on his identification and location of his heirs (I think this was on the original broadcast too). No updates for Michael Scott Martin or Kurt McFall.

9/14/88 - rerun of special 6. I did not notice any updates or obvious differences. I would wager this is exactly the same as the version aired on 5/6/88.

12/28/88 - rerun of special 4. I was excited to watch this one. However, differences between it and the Lifetime version were minimal.

The Dave Davis segment did not have an update. I have read elsewhere that this broadcast led to his capture. There was some additional footage in the Davis segment that was omitted from Lifetime's version (probably for time) such as additional comments from the Mohr family. There were also additional comments by the lead investigator on the case who mentioned that Davis had gone deer hunting a few years prior to Shannon's death. His weapon of choice was a bow and arrow. A tranquilizer had been applied to the arrow heads. Toxicology tests allegedly revealed traces of this same drug in Shannon's body. A few more photos of Davis were shown at the end of the segment including a blowup of his hands to show an abnormality that he has - "hammer head thumbs" - extremely thin thumbnails.

There was a brief update about the identification of the heirs of George Marsh. A niece recognized the pictures of herself shown on TV and called in. Joseph's brother was interviewed and said he didn't understand why Jospeh had changed his name to George Marsh and distanced himself from the family, as there was never animosity amongst the siblings. They had apparently been looking for him prior to the UM story, since 1931, in fact. They said they were happy about the money but that it was more important that they knew what happened to him and that they were going to have his remains exhumed and moved to the family plot.

The Aeeileen Conway, Grand Canyon and Dottie Caylor segments were the same as the Lifetime version.

Robert Stack introduced the program by saying that tonight's mysteries would focus on husband and wife relationships. I'll admit I never made that connection before but it makes sense. Dave Davis was wanted for the murder of his wife, Shannon, Pat Conway was searching for the truth about his wife's unusual death, newlyweds Glenn and Bessy Hyde disappeared together in the Grand Canyon, Jule Caylor was the prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife.

Aside from the update on Marsh, Stack didn't mention any previous stories nor the mystery of the ever changing host.

Looks like you found some more goodies, lol. It sounds like the Marsh update is the same one that Spike has been airing. I have always been curious if the NBC version of Aileen Conway had any additional info, even a few short lines, that Lifetime edited out. Are you sure there's not any additional info, come on give me something, lol!!

Interesting about the additional footage in the Dave Davis segment. It makes sense why it was edited out at least....to make room for the update.

I think you would be very surprised if you knew the extent of all the goodies I unearthed, lol. Monday was a big day for me.

I'll have to watch the episode again and report back. I was also surprised that there wasn't anything additional in those stories. I guess because Lifetime's editors deleted the Marsh update, and those comments about Davis, it was enough to fit their time criteria without having to curtail the other segments. But, I will check again.

A part of me wonders if NBC cut anything since the episode was technically a re-run. I was sort of bummed that I didn't get the original airing but I guess I can't complain under the circumstances.
