My thoughts about CBS/Paramount - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

IF I WAS CBS DVD or CBS Home Entertainment

I’d rethink my strategy and realize that my consumers are the backbone to the success of the DVD Box Set sales.

I would stop selling DVD box sets in split seasons of shows with hour-long episodes (I.E. The Love Boat, Love American Style, etc) for the price of a full season. In other words, no more Season (number) Volume 1 since that KILLS sales.

I would at least TRY to secure rights to show’s original music and really give our consumer their money’s worth. (Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Melrose Place, etc)

Stop the discontinuation of DVD releases of TV Shows that only have ONE or not many seasons released at the present due to "low" sales. (Love, American Style, especially)

I would retain each and every show’s integrity by retaining all closing logos.

Any thoughts?

Paramount either has, or is in the process of, putting out series on DVD that if those titles were owned by, say, Sony/Warner/FOX they'd get 1-2 seasons and then that'd be it (or you'd have to wait 4 years, if Sony). I can complain all day about music replacements and split-season sets, and the packaging...but at least they're willing to release the episodes at all - and for all I've harped on them I HAVE to give them credit for that.

Yeah CBS/Paramount is putting out more series from their back catalog than other studios but they are also the most frustrating studio. They either fail to include any extras/commentaries in a set, they split the seasons into volumes, or they quit on a series before all the seasons are out. ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I do know that as of now, I am curbing my spending on any full priced CBS Home Entertainment TV DVDs until I see some changes and one of them is the decision to release the 2nd Season on of LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE and keep this release as ONE set, not too. That means I may have to wait to add to shows like Happy Days, Melrose Place, Laverne & Shirley, The Love Boat etc UNLESS I find them selling lower than retail. Until then, no $$$ for CBS DVD from me.
