TBS Fires Announcer Chip Caray - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

TBS has parted ways with lead Major League Baseball announcer Chip Caray following a postseason performance widely criticized for mistakes.
The cabler informed employees of the decision Monday in a companywide memo.

"Since the end of the 2009 MLB Playoffs, we've had several discussions with Chip Caray regarding 2010 and beyond. Both sides agree that now is the right time to move ahead on different paths," Turner Sports said in a statement.

With next season still months away, no replacement for Caray is likely to be immediately announced.

TBS had markedly improved ratings for its October broadcasts of MLB's Division Series and the American League Championship Series, but Caray came under fire for a series of errors. According to the New York Times, Caray's contract with the net had not yet expired.

Caray had held lead announcer honors for TBS since 2007. The son of longtime baseball announcer Skip Caray and grandson of Hall of Fame game-caller Harry Caray, he has been a full-time baseball play-by-play man since 1991.
