Dallas and Dynasty were the two primetime soap operas from the 1980's that were the most popular and successful. They also both hit number one in the ratings, Dallas more then Dynasty. Which one was your favorite? Which one was better?
I can't really give an opinon on this myself, due to the fact that I haven't seen much of Dynasty. When I see both of these shows come on, it's like re-living something from my past, because I would always remember the theme songs and opening sequences from when I was little kid and my mom would watch them every week. |

I liked DYNASTY better, and i think that overall DYNASTY has made a bigger impact on society. The shoulder pads, make-up, ect.. plus people still talk about DYNASTY and not so much about DALLAS. Although the DALLAS stars have had more success afterwards, Patrick Duffy (Step by Step), Bradd Pitt (need i say more,) and Victoria Princiapal (Hair Care Products, make-up and countless made-for-tv movies)!

"Dallas" was better, IMO. It ran longer than "Dynasty" (13 1/3 seasons vs. 8 1/2), and was was higher rated than "Dynasty" for all but one season. And let's face it, the only reason "Dynasty" was created was because ABC was looking for a "Dallas" knockoff.

I saw Dallas, but only because I never saw Dynasty. I think that Dynasty WAS NOT a ripoff of Dallas. If that was true, Knots Landing, Hotel, and Falcon Crest should be called ripoffs too. That means that every soap opera would be a ripoff of the first ever one.
The primetime soaps ran for these many years: Dallas 13 seasons (1978-91) Falcon Crest 9 seasons (1981-90) Knots Landing 14 seasons (1979-93) Dynasty 8 seasons (1981-89) Hotel 5 seasons (1983-88) I think that primetime soaps were the big thing of that time, and therefore, none of them were ripoffs. |
