That's pretty much how I feel. My Mom died in 2002 and the Holidays have never been the same since. I'm sorry that you are going through all this. It's true...life isn't fair.

It's always hard to lose a loved one but especially around the holidays. My dad died on Dec 3, 1992, and every year on that day I can't help but remember how horrible it was to lose him.

I feel the same way...Wednesday I felt bad as I was driving to go eat it was a sad feeling. My Dad died between my Mom's and my birthday back in '81 and she passed last Dec 5, so it will be three years since my mom died. It's always hardest right before the holidays especially when everyone else seems so happy.

It's a sad feeling. I haven't truly enjoyed a holiday since 2000. I go through the motions, but my heart's not it. I'm sorry you're feeling this way. Many here know how you feel.

The holidays haven't been the same to me since my grandparents have all passed away (my dad's dad was the last of them to go, in 2002). Plus with my depression/anxiety and the fact that I don't have a job, my heart just feels like someone dragged it all the way down to my feet. I'll scrape together all I can for my nephews. If Christmas truly WAS just about the birth of Christ, I would be happy. But it's not - and greed just seems to come through more and more (like the Wal Mart employee who got trampled to death last year on Black Friday). Forgive me if I sound too morbid.

I'm sorry for all the losses here. My own father died in 2002. I miss him.

yeah i heard about that it was so sad mean old guy just came to shop for his loving family and end up with worst ending anyone could imagine life is not fair and so unpridactable

my mom went to walmart during day before black friday im wondering how the day came to be anyway we get to that some other time.

and all went fine just was way to busy she worked 14 straight hours bless her heart anyway back to subject at hand

i cant afford loose anymore family members i hate this first christmas without my daddy and i want him back most inportand holiday ever it just not fair nobody ever talks to me about it so i like alone in this.

listening to christmas music kind of helps but not enough nobody gets over losing a family member espically when he passed

day before mothers day and after my sisters birthday and month before mine it wasnt a surprise but sure shocked me i miss my daddy

i got his pics on my space so i got memories of how he use to be happy im sorry for your losses really am guess we all in this together

hope it came out right

I always try to look at the pleasant side of the holiday season. It helps
that I am a Christian with a deep faith in god and his son Jesus and that
I know that everything will be peace and love one day in Heaven.

I understand how many of you feel.

My father died in 1992 and my mom in 2005. She loved Xmas and was really the "spark" for me for years, when I would often have just either forgotten about it or at least not honored a lot of the traditions, particularly after my dad died. She loved the lights and the presents and the tree, and most of all, she knew what the holiday was about and was the most generous, caring person I've ever known.

Since then, I've basically "gotten through" the holidays. I don't begrudge anyone who loves and gets excited about them, particularly the children. That's how it should be. But honestly, I mostly feel empty and "out of it" on holidays and am glad when they are past.

Then to top it off, my only brother died on Christmas Eve 2006 (also his daughter's birthday).

I"m glad others are here that understand. In honor of my mom, I do put up a small tree and get a few presents and cards for those I care about. But in general, I think Christmas is never like it was for us as children, and it was like that for every generation. I just wish we didn't all have to feel the pressure of feeling giddy and joyous for two months. Linus said it 44 years ago that the true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with any of the "stuff" the media pushes at us; it's about rebirth and hope and love. It's just too bad we don't hear much about that anymore, or if we do it's drowned out by the incessant yammering about "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" and "Ruby Tuesday" (ok, so I made that one up) and whatever other materialistic landmarks the media come up with.

I always say the best thing about Christmas is December 26th.

That's the RIGHT way to look at Christmas - and what I'm trying to focus more and more on.
