Thumbs up Movie Reviews: "Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans"

Movie Reviews: Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans

Debuting in 27 theaters, Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans took in a so-so $257,000, or an average $9,500 per theater.

The film received mostly solid notices -- particularly for its star, Nicolas Cage. "He's a fearless actor," wrote Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times. "He doesn't care if you think he goes over the top. If a film calls for it, he will crawl to the top hand over hand with bleeding fingernails."

In her assessment, Claudia Puig of USA Today wrote, "It's a maniacal performance, complete with mad gales of laughter and insane bouts of temper. Cage doesn't go over the top, but he teeters darn close."

Michael Phillips in the Chicago Tribune observed that the film presents Cage "at his finest."

A.O. Scott in the New York Times commented that Cage's performance "requires adjectives as yet uncoined, typed with both the caps-lock key and the italics button engaged."

As for the film itself, Scott said that it "is no masterpiece, but it is undoubtedly the work of a master," In this case, the veteran director Werner Herzog.

Rick Groen in the Toronto Globe and Mail wrote that Herzog gives his audience "quite the ride -- wild and weird and blackly comic."

I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. I'm surprised it's not playing at major theatres and only independent theatres. Eva Mendes and rapper Xzibit are also in this movie. Eva plays a prostitute in the film LOL. I wonder if she gets naked LOL. I've never seen her naked before.

You know this is a remake of the Harvey Kietel flick Bad Lieutenant right? I'm interested in this one and waiting for the DVD to come out.

I don't know why but it just didn't get a distributor for a wide release. It's been completed for a year and just sat around until indie studio First Look picked it up.

No i didn't know it's a remake of Harvey's Bad Lieutenant. I haven't seen that one. I'm gonna check it out. I was at Blockbuster Video today and i saw a picture of Harvey in a new movie with Cuba Gooding Jr called Wrong Turn At Tahoe. It's a action flick. I'm gonna watch it today. Harvey's character is a drug dealer.

Cuba Gooding Jr does a new straight to video movie every month hahahahahahahahahahahaha. He did a new science fiction movie that looks kinda scary. I forgot the name of it. He also did another new science fiction movie with Val Kilmer. I saw the new one he did with Christian Slater called Lies And Illusions. I liked it. He had on too much makeup in the movie LOL. The 2 girls that were messing with Christian are hot. I'm gonna buy Cuba's Shadowboxer movie today from a local video store that i think is going outta business. I saw the store had it on sale for $6.99. I liked Shadowboxer but it was weird to see Cuba and Helen Mirren having sex scenes considering Helen is much older than him and she was supposed to be his stepmom LOL. Vanessa Ferlito who was also in the movie is a hot puerto rican girl. In one scene, she was fingering her pus*y when she saw Cuba in the shower naked hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. They ended up having sex after Helen got killed. JamesG, what's the name of that christmas movie Vanessa did last year with other puerto rican actors like John Leguizamo? I think it's called Nothing Like The Holidays. That's a good movie. What's that puerto rican guy's name that was a bad guy in Taking Of Pelham 123 movie with John Travolta and Denzel? He's played in a lot of movies. I also saw him in Crocodile Dundee 2, Carlito's Way 1 and 2, Fighting with Terrence Howard(Channing Tatum's girlfriend in this one is hot).

Speaking of Shadowboxer, Stephen Dorff is also in that and so is Monique of The Parkers tv show and new movie Precious. JamesG, you should see Monique now. She's lost a lot of weight and she has a new talk show that comes on BET late. She looks good. The reason i mentioned Stephen is because him and Cuba are also in Judgment Night movie which also has Emilio Estevez, Denis Leary, Jeremy Piven. Judgment Night is very good. Have you seen it? I got it on dvd.

Yeah Cuba Gooding Jr. has become a direct-to-video person in recent years. I remember him starring in Radio a while ago and then he tanked after that.

The one he did with Kilmer was Hardwired. I didn't care for it that much.

I didn't care for Lies and Illusions at all. I didn't think it had anything good about it.

I haven't seen Monique in a lot of things. I did see her in Keira Knightley's Domino; I loved that one.

I have seen Judgement Night but I haven't seen it in years. I don't remember it really.
