I was wondering in the episode Slapsgiving 2 who was that who played Lily's Father.

How I Met Your Mother: Meet Lily's Father

So far we've seen Robin's dad and sister, Marshall's family, Barney's mom and brother and Ted's relatives but now it's time to meet Lily Aldrin's dad on How I Met Your Mother. According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, the show has enlisted comedian Chris Elliott to play the pivotal role.

Chris Elliott, for those who are not familiar, is an actor who often plays smarmy characters. He became famous as a writer and performer on Late Night with David Letterman, playing an assortment of recurring oddball characters including, the Regulator Guy, the Fugitive Guy and the Guy Under the Seats. His other credits include roles recurring roles on Everybody Loves Raymond, The King of Queens, and According to Jim.

Based on Elliot's character description on How I Met Your Mother, it doesn't look like things will change. He'll also appear as a "good-for-nothing loser with a troubled past" when Lily's grandparents try to host a Thanksgiving celebration in the How I Met Your Mother episode slated to air on November 23. At the highly anticipated family reunion, Lily comes face-to-face with her estranged father --- an event that triggers some awful childhood flashbacks.

Fans will recall that Daddy Aldrin was not seen at Lily and Marshall's wedding in Season 2 -- but there's a reason for that, series creator Carter Bays tells TV Guide.

"He was not at the wedding. It's a bit of an estranged relationship and he's going to come back into her life... We find out he wasn't the best dad. It's sort of at the root of why Marshall's very gung-ho about having kids and Lily not so much," he said.

Aside from How I Met Your Mother, fans can catch Chris Elliot on the big screen when his movie, Speed-Dating, hits theaters in November. He's also part of the 2010 romantic comedy Renaissance Girl, starring Jennifer Tilly and Danielle Panabaker.
