A so-so episode that marks the first appearance of Sam the Butcher.

We also get to see a set change in that to the left of Carols dressing table the wall that had a picture on it now has a sliding wardrobe.

Also, notice the tv in the family room. In 54-40 and Fight we get the impression that they didn't have a tv in the family room??? Or was it that they didn't have a colour tv...

Thanks for pointing out the change in the bedroom set. I remember the earlier ep, "A Clubhouse Is Not a Home", where Carol kept moving her shoe boundary dividing the closet between Mike & her and wondered why she was doing that when I'd see later eps w/ the additional closet there. For years I thought "Clubhouse" was the show's premiere ep because I didn't see "The Honeymoon" until years into syndication, possibly the 80s, and the show addressed a lot of the problems related to moving into the house.

One of my favorites! The idea of having a payphone in your house kind of intrigues me. It wouldn't be as fun as having a arcade game (like "Silver Spoons"), but it would be a conversation starter.

Same here. I missed Brady Bunch the first week because we were watching something else (can't remember what) and in many, possibly all, markets the pilot wasn't shown in syndication for the first several rounds.

The first time it was shown in syndication in Sacramento it was a lost episode to me.

Actually, "A Clubhouse is Not a Home" was the 3rd episode to be filmed but during the original run was the 6th episode to air!!!! According to www.bradyworld.com it originally aired on October 31, 1969.

I heard that the first six episodes were filmed with no actual continuity as to when they would air, I believe this was because Florence was performing in "Song of Norway" at the time. Not sure, can anyone clarify this? Her actual hair needed to be short for the performance. That is why you see that hideous wig on her!

Most syndicate stations air this episode after "The Honeymoon" for better continuity. The DVD's go in order of Filming:

What was interesting was when Brady Bunch had its original run the reviews were mediocre at best. Robert Reed's assessments of "Gilligan's Island with Kids" was actually shared by many reviewers. Some local stations DID NOT even pick up the prime time feed until season 2. I know for a fact that in several mid-west markets, the Honeymoon pilot didn't air in prime time on September 26, 1969, but the next day Saturday at 4PM. This was to centralize the show more around the belief that some station managers thought it was "for children."

Than when Season 2 premiered with "The Dropout" (i.e Greg's baseball obsession) locals saw a decent following with the show, and moved most, if not all markets to prime-time showings.
