Of all of the dramas of the 1980's, My all-time favorite is "Knots Landing". It may have been a spin-off of "Dallas", but the show was good all its own.
The reason why it was so good is because the show dealt with real people living together in one little neighborhood and never had nay larger-than-life characters. It focused on Gary Ewing and his wife Valene and their getting back together in the first few years, only to get torn apart by conniving neighbors, namly Abby Cunningham, and new marriages and relationships within their community. I'm very glad that they have this show on Soapnet because now I can relive all of the classic storylines that I have loved over and over again. |

i loved Knot Landing, it was a great show, but you have to admit that Abby Cunningham and Greg Sumners were pretty over the top, not as much as the characters on Dynasty or Dallas, but stil very ovet the top.

Yeah, I thought Abby was a little over-the-top, but a typical 80s soap villainness. Greg seemed a little more subtle to me, and was a deeper character (not good, not evil, but somewhere in between). William Devane is a unique performer, and I couldn't picture him on any of the other soaps, unlike Abby/Donna Mills.

I'm probably not quite as big a fan of Michele's as you are, but I agree that she was a crucial part of the show, probably the most important character in the ensemble. I really liked the relationship between Karen and Val -- Michele looked a little lost during the final season when Joan Van Ark was absent.
Michele Lee was nominated once for an Emmy as best lead actress for her role as Karen. |

According to IMDB.com Michelle Lee holds the record for the greatest number of consecutive appearances by a leading actress in a dramatic series; 344 on Knots Landing.

My favorite character was Gary and Valene, second would be Frank and Patricia Williams.

I am almost done with Season 1 and have totally enjoyed it. I loved Gary and Valene together - and am happy to hear they reunited in the last episode in 1993. (Were they still together for the reunion in 1997?) That Richard Avery - he was such a slimy weasel (I'm not surprised he was a lawyer...
)!! Right now I'm on the season finale where Gary falls off the wagon - the disease is handled with sensitivity, plus TS & JVA made it more convincing. I really hope the rest of the series is released eventually - it's left me wanting more!!
