Were Television Seasons Ever Released On VHS? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I remember back when DVDs first came out that it was a pretty big thing when complete seasons were being put to DVD.

An example I remember is when the first season of The Sopranos was released on DVD around the year 2000. It sold very quickly and was a huge seller at the time; they were also a lot more expensive back then.

VHS mostly released select episodes, or "Best Ofs"... when they put tv shows to tape.

Did any tv show ever get complete season releases on VHS? I don't recall ever seeing any.

I may be mistaken but I think there were some complete season releases of Sex and the City on VHS.

Yes, I know some were, but I think sales were mostly limited to mail/phone order. Two examples: "The Monkees" were released as a 21 tape set by Rhino Records. "SOAP" was released by Columbia House as a 23 tape set. Columbia House actually included scenes that were absent from Sony's DVD release.

Actually, all six seasons of Sex and the City were released on VHS. I wasn't aware of that.

I just thought of another series on VHS, Dark Shadows (original and the revival series), from MPI Media and MGM Home Video.

MPI also put of some of the Hullabaloo episodes and they did all of Music Scene on VHS. Rhino put out various clips of Shindig, and they put out the whole week of the Mike Douglas Show where John Lennon and Yoko One were the guest co hosts.

I'm pretty sure Friends had at least a couple of seasons released on VHS. The short lived one season V:The Series had all episodes released.

'I Love Lucy' had a few VHS releases. And one year, for my birthday, my parents bought me the Ricardo's and the Mertz's entire European trip on VHS.

I think the entire series of Bewitched was on vhs. I think it was marketed towards serious collectors though. Star Trek is another.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show and Rhoda had best-of vhs releases. Several shows had the first few episodes available.

It just wasn't practical to collect tv shows on vhs. Too costly and if you collected one tv show, imagine how much space it would take to store, compare to dvd sets, which are becoming more and more compact all the time.
