Loopy de Loop's 50th Birthday was last week.

His 1st cartoon was featured on November 5, 1959 by the makers of "Tom and Jerry" and "Yogi Bear" (Hanna/Barbera). He's probably the cariacture of a Quebecois (French-Canadian) that I've ever seen.

But whatever...Happy (belated) 50th Birthday Loopy de Loop.

...was created primarily because Columbia Pictures needed a new theatrical cartoon series after its distribution agreement with UPA {"Mr. Magoo'} ended in late 1959, and wanted to continue releasing new cartoons to movie theaters. They already had a deal with Hanna-Barbera to distribute "HUCKLEBERRY HOUND" and "QUICK DRAW McGRAW" for TV [through their Screen Gems division], and asked them to come up with a new character for theatrical release. And Loopy was a success: he starred in 49 cartoons between November 1959 and June 1965- later shown, of course, on television.

Too bad that having 49 cartoons in almost 6 years, Loopy would have more popularity.

I wish Warner Brothers would release Loopy de Loop Cartoons on DVD.

...Loopy was seen primarily in theaters that hurt its chances to be syndicated, as Columbia apparently didn't want to release them on TV after his theatrical "shelf life" ended (they had so much 1957-'66 Hanna-Barbera "product" in their library, they figured, who should they?). They did, however, reissue several of them as part of their 8mm home movie catalog during the '60s and '70s. It wasn't until Taft Broadcasting, which acquired the H-B library from Columbia in the '80s, finally released Loopy to cable TV {initially seen on "USA CARTOON EXPRESS"}; if they hadn't, you probably never would have heard of "Loopy De Loop" again, except in the comic books, coloring and story books and record tie-ins issued at the time....

You can also see Loopy de Loop in the cartoon "Yo, Yogi" as a chef who goes 'Loopy' every time Teen Yogi visits the cafeteria.

I also hope that the TV Show I make would be on Adult Swim, because I'd like to use the character Loopy de Loop and have episodes called "Wacky Races", "Ark Lark", "Laff-a-Lympics", and "Galaxy Goof-Ups" which are twists of the H-B TV Shows from the 70's.
