"Cheers" fans, listen up. Cliff Clavin wants to be a Senator. It's true. John Ratzenberger is considering a run for the U.S. Senate in 2012 in Connecticut, according to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Ratzenberger started his potential campaign by casting his lot with conservative Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty at a $5,000-a-plate dinner that launched the new Freedom First PAC on Wednesday night. Ratzenberger said he would support Pawlenty if he runs for president:

Right now, I'd endorse him for president."

Pawlenty did not comment on Ratzenberger's potential Senate campaign, but you have to wonder if he would want to be associated with a man who is seen by the public as a clueless, know-it-all postal worker. Then again, looking clueless on TV didn't seem to hurt Sarah Palin's conservative support base, so who knows?

I'm sure that most viewers are smart enough to separate an actor from his or her role, so Pawlenty really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

You also have to factor that some voters either don't remember/didn't watch Cheers, so they wouldn't recognize Ratzenberger as Cliff.

That being said, I think Ratzenberger would make a great Senator, for one thing, it is good to see another Republican in the liberal-dominated entertainment business!
