I was wondering who that was. Nice to see that Goodson/Pearson is keeping the job in the family, the same way they did when Gene Wood filled in for Johnny Olson, or when Dennis James filled in for Bob Barker.

I hear that Rod had his surgery, is feeling better, and has returned to work.

I've heard that his post-surgery "Price" shows will be airing later this month.

Actually, I've heard from a few sources that we'll probably have to wait until after the new year to see episodes featuring Rod Roddy.

I'm just curious, does anyone know what he had surgery for? I know it's really none of my business, but I just really hope it's not too serious. I'm too young to remember when TPIR ever had a different host or a different announcer, to me, TPIR will always be defined in terms of Bob Barker and Rod Roddey, so I am glad to hear he is back at his job. I just hope nothing too serious was wrong with him.

Rod Roddy was in the hospital to have surgery of the colon. As was mentioned, though, he is doing alright, and he shall be present at the upcoming The Price is Right anniversary special to be taped at the Rio in Las Vegas, the first on-location episode of the 30-year-old game.

I could be wrong about this but if I am not mistaking Bob Barker and his Barker Babes took the show on the road years ago back in the 70s. I remember hearing Bob years ago on TPIR that he will be appearing at the civic center in Richmond, VA and somewhere in North Carolina. I would say Charlotte but its been so long ago.

Now was it a taping or just a day of fun and games? That I dont know. But I do remember Bob saying it was a chance for people to check out the games.

Years ago there was an old kids show called Wonderama with Bob McAllister and he did this. Taking "wonderama" on the road to various shopping centers and amusement parks. Doing the same things as he does on the tv show but the events were NOT tapings of the tv show.

Thats how I got to see Laverne & Shirley in person.

It wasn't for tapings, so it probably was just for fun. However, are you sure this was something Bob said on The Price is Right.

I'm pretty sure Bob Barker did. He and Johnny Olson said Something like for the viewers
in Virginia and North Carolina we will be there. Could have been a local piece aired in TPIR.

Thinking about this, now I dont think he took his show for a "day of fun & games" to the Richmond Coliseum. I believe it was to Paramount's Kings Dominion amusement park near Richmond ( Charlotte has Carowinds which was and still is own by the same people who owns Kings Dominion so Bob could have been there too , but I'm not sure on that one ). But a game like TPIR could mix in with an amusement park, surprised more theme parks dont use some of the game shows as themes for games and maybe even rides. Riding a giant Plinko, that would be cool!!

I'm sure it was strictly for public appearances only, unless he and the Barker babes taped a show for just the Richmond tv station but that I seriously doubt.

Hersheypark in Pennsylvania had some kind of game show done there too back in the 70s, only in their case it WAS taped to air in some east coast markets. Buts that all I remember about that one.
