I heard ABC is quite upet about it.
In my opinion Millionaire was a "fad" show
and I knew it would be a matter of time before it goes off the air.

I would not be surprised to se the same thing
happen to Weakest Link or even Survivor. I doubt those two shows would be on the air five, even three years from now. Maybe sooner.

Taste change all the time. Remember the "trivia" craze of the 80s?

it's called overkill. they should have never put on the show so much. ABC cancelled wasteland, Oh Grow Up, Snoops and It's like you know to put on a gameshow. How does was that??? People actually like to see 'real' shows not somebody else winning bucko bucks. and now millionaire has all of these celeb shows.... its just too much.

CBS is all ego now with Survivor. If they were not greedy then they would just give it to us once a year not overkill.... the problem is not fad, its just too much.....

They still have a confirmed FIRM GO for Fall syndication next year, and just because the show is not picked up for the fall season does not mean it would not be a ready fill-in show, and it also does not mean that they may not revert back to specials, ala the previous system of airing the show.

Oh man do I agree with you about overkilling it. I used to watch Millionaire, but now its just the same old thing. I grew tired of it, and stopped watching it.

Hi All,

I was one of Millionaire's biggest fans, but what killed it was TOO MANY DAMN CELEBRITY SHOWS! Who cares about celebs playing? Even if it is for charity? The whole point and fun of the show was to see if average Joe/Jane contestants could win big $$$ and reach the million dollar prize. Celebrities don't need the $$$, they get more than enough as it is. And if you remember, they automaticaly get $32,000 and could even be "coached" by the other celebs who just acted like total pompus jerks....What's up with that? I agree about the overkill at 4-5 nights a week. Go back to 2 nights a week ABC and you can save the show. But no more celebrity show bullsh*t!

The speculation is that Regis will host the 5-day-a week syndicated version, and the nighttime version will be rested for a while. It would then return to the network later on as a series of specials (like it aired originally), with a new host. ABC supposedly would like to find a young comedian to host the network specials, because they think that more comedy would help the ratings. Yeah, that'll work.

If the network version isn't already gone by the fall, my prediction is that the syndicated version will kill it. How much of one show do we really need to see?

Geez, what's with this country? Apparently no one over 40 can do anything!! Personally, I think the older hosts are better. They seem more personable than the young "hip" guys.

Thumbs up

Totally agree with the two posts above about celebrity overkill. ENOUGH ALREADY! Bring back the regular everyday people to the hot seat! It seems every friggin' game show is doing this now! Celebs everywhere! I'm really starting to get impatient with "Weakest Link"s washed-up stars shows which they've been doing EVERY WEEK! Get back to basics for crimany's sake! Sick of seeing celebs who have NO CLUE about how to play the game, or who just aren't smart. Now "Fear Factor" has tv/movie stars? Oh, just great!

And a younger host for "Millionaire"? Watch, I'll bet it'll be Wayne Brady! ABC is so in love with him.

Sad "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" Future

Some newspaper articles I came across stated that ABC's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" might not return next fall. That is of concern since it is one of the few shows left free of violence, sex, and foul language.

Fans: You might want to e-mail ABC at "audsvcs@abc.com"!

If you know alot about game shows, you'll remember that this is what killed Password on ABC in 1975 almost what killed The $20,000 Pyramid in 1978. This is nothing new ity has happened in the pasy t this was just the first time in a long time.
