Oh No My Poor Dad - First His Health, Now His Car!

My dad has been fighting a bug the past few days that has kept him sick in bed and home from work. He's been miserable. Then, about an hour ago, some woman in an Escalade, yammering on a cell phone, was not paying attention, and smashed into my dad's car (which was parked on the street). The bumper fell off, the back windows are all smashed and I'm not sure if it can even be salvaged. The police came, filed a report and took the woman away. At least she had the decency to come up to our door and ask if it was our car.

I didn't hear any of this because I'd just gotten out of the tub and was blow-drying my hair. Then my dad knocked on my door and told me to look outside. I heard the car alarm blaring, then I saw the damage. YIKES. My dad spent quite a bit of time on the phone with the insurance company and is now waiting for the tow truck.

Thank goodness, since it was the other driver's fault, we won't be stuck with the bill for repairs (or another car, if need be). I made sure to go outside and take pictures should we need them. Still, it's not exactly making my dad feel better. He had to come downstairs in his bathrobe and PJs when he heard the commotion!!

why is it that so many of those people driving Escalades think that they can just park wherever they want to - whether there's already another car there or not?

(hope yer dad's feeling better soon)

I don't think she was parking - she was yammering on the cell phone and not paying attention. I think she just veered off because her eyes weren't on the road. We live in a residential area where the speed limit is 25, and with the impact, she had to be going at least 10 miles above that. I'll have to post the pictures I took later on to show the damage.

Thank you also for your kind words about my dad - poor thing is still coughing like crazy. Now this - he doesn't deserve it.

Monika, I'm praying for your father too sweetie pie. Keeping my fingers crossed all the stress he's going through works itself out.

I'm sorry about what your dad is going through and what happened to his car. I'll keep him in my prayers. I hope everything gets repaired without any problems from the woman's insurance company.

Thanks again, everyone. He is NOT in a good mood right now (not that anyone can blame him). He's feverish, coughing, and now this.

Well, I never! I saw the status update about that on FB... I don't even. Why? Wow, that woman was WAY distracted. I wanna know what her vehicle looks like now.

I don't blame your dad one bit - I would be in a foul mood for over a week if I were him.
