TV Michael Cudlitz Talks To AOL On "Southland's" Move To TNT

Michael Cudlitz Talks Southland, Moving to TNT and Being the Truth Bearer
November 3, 2009
By: Maggie Furlong

One of the biggest "What the ..." moments of fall TV didn't even happen on TV. In a bizarre fit of scheduling shake-ups, NBC cancelled critically acclaimed drama Southland just weeks before the second season was set to premiere. TNT has picked up the show, so now Southland fans -- and hilariously vocal star Michael Cudlitz -- can rest easy.

AOL TV sat down with Cudlitz before all the drama went down, but just caught up with him again to get his reaction to the big news.

On TNT picking up up the show:

"It's awesome -- we couldn't be more excited. This is the best possible thing that could've happened after NBC cancelled us. I think it's a great opportunity for the show to either sink or swim on its own merits, and not some seemingly arbitrary business decision."

On being so vocal on Twitter:

"I just said the truth ... and not to be like, 'I'm the truth bearer!' because I'm not. Ultimately, [NBC] did what they did, which is not what they said they were going to do, and I just pointed that out. If you look at it and stand back and really read what I said, there's nothing incendiary about it. It's very factual."

On getting sh-- for being so vocal on Twitter:

"You know, I've gotten some sarcastic sh-- from other journalists, basically saying I'm a publicist's nightmare, but very tongue-in-cheek.

One headline was 'Michael Cudlitz Will Never Work for NBC Again,' but the tone of the whole article was this person really dug what I said and how I said it, and they ended it with: 'And let's hope Michael Cudlitz never gets media training.' [Laughs]"

On the new episodes they've already shot:

"They're freaking awesome! I think that the season premiere of what would've been the second season -- which will now be the eighth episode -- is phenomenal.

The show gets so tight. We've met all the characters, we know who everybody is, we can just jump right in to the police work and all the relationship stuff. There's no more 'splaining, Mr. Watson! It's all just bust a--, down-and-dirty police work."
