Audition Experts to Give Tips; Geoff Edwards to be Honored; Betty White to Accept Allen Ludden Award at Hollywood Celebration of Your Favorite Shows
Hollywood, CA, November 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- “The password for today is fun. The Game Show Congress event Nov. 14-15 in Hollywood is The place to be for Fun. Make your plans to attend now.” That was how Allen Ludden – named by TV Guide as the greatest game show host of all time – closed his daily “Password” shows. And “fun” is what fans can expect to find at the 7th annual two-day celebration to be held at Beverly Garland’s Holiday Inn in Hollywood. Actress Betty White, Ludden’s widow and most recently seen in the hit Sandra Bullock movie “The Proposal,” will accept the Bill Cullen Career Achievement Award honoring Ludden at the open-to-the-public conference celebrating excellence by contestants, writers, producers, hosts, and others who have contributed to the rich history of television game shows. Geoff Edwards, a TV game shows veteran, will receive the Ralph Edwards Award for Career Community Service. His first break came 39 years ago when he was asked to sub at the last minute for an ailing Monty Hall on “Let’s Make A Deal.” Getting good reviews, he got chances to do other game shows and hit it big with “the new Treasure Hunt,” a syndicated remake of the Jan Murray original. Later he would do the high-energy “Jackpot!,” a game show based on riddles. And the fans still remember. “It still happens. Somebody will recognize me on the street or in a restaurant and they’ll yell out, ‘Jackpot!,’ “ he said in an interview. Today, Edwards is also known as a online travel writer and radio travel analyst. Have you ever wanted to be a contestant on a game show? Casting director Bev Pomerantz will lead a session on “How to Ace the Audition.” Many top contestants from game shows will be there to share experiences. And there will be a competition training tournament featuring game shows “Deal or No Deal,” “Chain Reaction,” “Scrabble,” “Lingo,” “$ale of the Century,” “$25,000 Pyramid,” “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,” “Concentration” and “Blockbusters.” Persons can still register for this special event at www.gameshowcongress.net. Beverly Garland’s Holiday Inn is freeway-close at 4222 Vineland in Hollywood, and one mile from Universal Studios and CityWalk. Legendary game show host Tom Kennedy will present “The Wonderful World of Game Shows” and the Game Show Congress, as a group, will attend tapings of “The Price Is Right” and “Jeopardy!” on Monday, Nov. 16. Early arrivals on Friday, Nov. 13 will be treated to a late-evening social in the hotel’s lounge featuring game shows “The Price Is Right,” “Match Game ’09.” “Greed,” and “Rhyme and Reason.” All events take place at the hotel. The awards presentations are Sunday, Nov. 15. Ludden’s award is named for pioneering TV game show host Bill Cullen, who was the original host of “The Price Is Right.” Edwards’ award is named for (no relation) Ralph Edwards, host of “This Is Your Life” and producer of a long-running list of game shows dating back on TV to “Truth Or Consequences.” Paul Bailey is president of Game Show Congress. "I have been a life-long fan of game shows myself, and I would say to anyone who has loved watching them or always wanted to audition for one but did not know how, this is the weekend event to be at," he said. http://www.pr.com/press-release/190256 |
