The 60's: The Monkees
The 70's: Mork and Mindy
The 80's: the Charmings
The 90's: 3rd Rock From the Sun

It's amazing how many "fantasy" shows were on in the 60's. *sigh* That's what TV is supposed to be: escape.

Specifically, 1964 has been called "The Year of the Great Escapism," by
authors Arthur Shulman and Roger Youman in their book, The Television
Years
(Popular Library; 1973) ... the year that gave us The Man from
U.N.C.L.E., The Munsters, The Addams Family, Bewitched, Peyton Place,
Gilligan's Island
and Gomer Pyle (among others). If you're old
enough to remember, the nation was still recovering from the shock of the
assassination of President John F. Kennedy (on Nov. 22, 1963). Television
then provided a much-needed escape from reality ... as did radio stations
that played the music of a new British combo named The Beatles. (A
further connection: even Paul McCartney was a huge fan of The
Munsters
.)
