Default B&W vs. Color

When I got Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, I made sure to get the B&W sets. I don't mind the colorized episodes and I think they did a good job, but I wanted them the way they were originally produced.

Did anyone else do this?

I own the first 5 seasons and bought them all the day they came out. The stores in my area only carried the colorized versions, so that's what I got. But I paid more attention to the stories than to the fact that they were colorized. Season 1, I think, is probably my favorite season. It was so new and fresh, and it was also fun to see Sam and Darrin as newlyweds - the only full season before they became parents.

Actually the Black & White sets were not as they were originally produced, in fact after they were restored they were in effect grey scaled so they look exactly as the color ones do with the color turned right off.

If you saw them on N@N or on the Columbia House VHS factory tapes you see that the shadows, contrast, texture & actual Black & White colors look very different then the way they looked in the B/W DVD sets.

I also have the original 16mm prints for many of the B/W episodes & can see exactly how they looked back in 1964 to 1966 in glorious Black & White which is not how they looked on the B/W DVD sets.

I got the Colorized DVD sets for the first 2 seasons & as such i got both of them at the same time if i want to turn off the colour.

I fell in love with the colorized version when the episodes aired on The Hallmark Channel, so I bought the colorized version.

There is no way in hell I would consider watching the colorized version of this or any other show.

I hate it so much when they colorize black and white footage
it looks cheap and phoney, and I like black and white, it caputures and era long gone.

It was made in black and white, black and white all the way for me.

In many cases especially in the examples from back in the mid 1980's when colorization started such as Gilligan's Island they were really bad.

But with the advances in technology things were completely different when Bewitched was colorized.

I think they did a fantastic job in colorizing Bewitched, it looks excellent & very realistic, almost as if it had been filmed that way.

I think getting the Colorized versions gives one a two for one rather then being limited to only B/W in the Black & White DVD sets.

I alternate in my viewing rotations of all the episodes, one time in color & one time in Black & White, this adds greatly i feel to the Bewitched experience it gives me.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on this matter.

I think it's amazing that Sony even gave us a choice.

Cool, i must say one thing i always liked about the B/W episodes is that they had a more Witchy, spooky, early 1960's, New York feel to them then the color episodes which always had a more late 1960's, LA feel to them i thought.

B/W does allow one to create an ambiance that is very unique that you just can't do in Color.

Larry, I will ask one favor....I know you usually make every effort to anyway, but when you post, please feel free to post as many EM pictures as you can. I can imagine from reading your posts that you've got tons of them since you have so much of Liz's collective works. But yeah, the more, the better! And thanks for the above ones as well.
