Post Question

It's been a quite a while since I've
watched Price Is Right. I turned it
on today and Rod Roddy wasn't on it.
So, my question is, why isn't he on?
What happened?

You must be psychic, because I was thinking of posting this question also. I hope it was just a one time deal, because I am so used to Rod Roddy on the show. Anybody have the details?

After they had the first item up for bids, Bob Barker explained that Rod had some kind of surgery, which means, he'll probably be off for at least 2 weeks

The announcer who's filling in for Rod is Burton Richardson(I think that's his last name), and I'm 99% sure it is the same announcer, who was on the Doug Davidson version

Unfortunately, Rod Roddy did undergo surgery. He had, at first, kept the severity of the surgery to himself, however we now know it was pretty major surgery. I am unsure if he has returned yet, however he is greatly missed by the TPIR crew (especially Bob, who I have heard (may not be true) thinks Rod is a much better announcer than Burton.) CBS has more or less announced that Rod won't return, TPIR and Rod are more optimistic. I have no idea if he's back yet, or if he will return.

Burton Richardson, announcer of Family Feud and To Tell The Truth (both Fremantle Media properties), the 1994 syndicated version of The Price is Right, and The Arsenio Hall Show, has temporarily been announcing in his place. I have no idea if he would replace Rod if Rod leaves, though I think that they'd hold auditions first. (When it came to choosing Rod Roddy to announce after the unfortunate death of Johnny Olson, the decision was almost solely that of Bob Barker's. If it is true that Bob doesn't like Burton, we probably wouldn't see him on the show on a permanent basis.)

So, Rod Roddy isn't off the show for good? I hope he comes back soon. I've
always known him to be on Price Is Right.
Having this new guy, seems really weird.
Before I asked that question, I thought
something might have happened, like maybe
he passed away or he retired and they
replaced him. I can't wait for him to
come back!

I assume TPIR fans and Bob really liked etJohnny Olsen, too(perhaps even more than Rod), until he died, and, to me, Rod's voice sounds a whole lot like Johnny Olsen's. For instance, when I see reruns of "Password Plus", where Johnny is announcer, I have a tendency to think first, it's Rod Roddy, but, at the end, I find out it's Johnny Olsen

Ditto. It seems so weird to hear him instead of Rod. I only catch TPIR when I'm absent from school or vacations and such, but it is strange to hear somebody in Rod's place....

Yes, well Rod was very sick, and may still be. If you're very sick, then returning to announce a show seems less than appropriate. However, he may be better now, I honestly don't know.

I don't have any evidence, but, you just might see Rod in a repeat episode, next Friday, the day after Thanksgiving
