Default For or against prostitution?

Are you all for or against prostitution? I personally am against it, though most people I know actually favor it.

Look, it's not called "the oldest profession" for nothing. Putting it simply it's going to be around for as long as mankind is around.

It's about time the government realizes that it is never going to go away and that it should be legalized, regulated, and taxed. Why have it not benefit the government? It's regulation would mean mandatory health inspections, benefits for the workers and their protection, and mandatory condom use.

I watch to see how Nevada is handling it and it seems like that they have no trouble.

Cool

I believe that sexual intimacy is something that is meant to be shared by a couple in a loving relationship. It's not meant to be bought and sold.

Nevada has done a good job of handling legalized prostitution. I have relatives who live there and they have said there have been issues of prostitutes claiming that brothel owners are unfair to them by keeping them at the brothels almost 24/7. But other than that there are no others issues in Nevada with prostitution. I agree with you prostitution will never eliminated.

I'm for it. Its not that I have any interest in if for myself, I don't, but for people who are interested in it, than that's really up to them.

That's no different from other company bosses making their employees do over-time and taking advantage. That goes on in almost every business.

It'll be around regardless, I don't disagree. There's too many downsides:

1)Just because someone doesn't test positive for any STD's, it doesn't mean they're clean.

2)Pregnancy is still a risk, even with a condom.

5)It has the potential to ruin many marriages.
(i don't see this post but i got it from james's quote)

none of those things are unique to prostitution, they're about sex in general. if a consenting adult wants to pay money to risk diseases and pregnancy, that's not the government's nor the rest of society's business. besides, what's the difference besides doing it for free and doing it for a price? those risks are still equally there.

regarding #3 (and 4), she has to already be predisposed to misbehavior in order to do that. a well-raised child wouldn't suddenly turn on their parents, throw their education in the trash and sell their bodies just because it's legal. that's a simply child-rearing issue, not a government issue.

Even those that were raised properly will often experiment to at least some extent. That's one of the biggest problems I see. Many will experiment and it can have long-term consequences.
