My computer monitor fried out
This past week, I've had to use the library computers once more because my monitor at home, an HP model from 2004, went on the blink and stopped working. I thought it was the connections, but then when the turn-on light turned blue and changed colors last night, I thought my problem was solved--until a few minutes later when that ickey electrical smoke started wafting from the back of the monitor!
Turned it off, unplugged it, flipped on the kitchen fan. Yuck. ![]() Wow, had the monitor for five years, one of the big monitors resembling a t.v. Never thought it would be so soon before it gave out. But it's time to get a flat-screen. I hope I can find a good one soon for a decent price, preferably another HP. I think when I shopped around five years ago when I bought my computer, flat-screens were a little more expensive. But now I think they're more affordable. I don't want to keep heading to the library to use a computer. |

watch for sales on www.TigerDirect.com - you can get some pretty good deals on 19" to 22" flatscreens - I just bought two of the Acer 19" X193W's for $99 a piece last month

That happened to me...mine was a HP monitor too, it was a 19 inch and I only had it 4 years!! I had to buy a new one (not the same) as they couldn't repair it.

My manager at work told me about extra one they had in the back room that was a t.v.-type monitor, and that I was free to have it if I didn't mind lugging it home. I was thinking about it, but I don't want to have the same experience of having tubes or whatever fry out in who knows how long. I'm not sure how old it is, it might be as old as my current one.
Speaking of which, we've been having major computer problems at work, we've been down all week with the dialer down and a whole slew of other crazy problems. We should be up and running by tomorrow, hopefully. |

I guess I got one of the good ones. I have a HP monitor from 2002 that still works good. The original computer has long since died however.
I see no sense in buying a new flatscreen monitor until this one dies (although it is tempting sometimes) |

mine fried & died abt 4 mo ago. 3 wks before that the mouse and then 3 mo ago sadly my hard drive. Since then have been renting computer time - I'm probably going to get an Apple of some sort (I've heard great things abt them)
