My favorite is Gene Rayburn. I loved his humor, he had a warmth about him that put even the more timid contestants and stars at ease. He never made fun of anyone and had a super attitude.

Uh...dawsongirl picks... just kidding:
Richard Dawson. ![]() I agree, he was very laid back and casual about hosting. He got to know the contestants and that made everyone (well, most everyone at least) feel comfortable. Gene Rayburn did the same thing. Structure didn't inhibit their hosting like it does with so many other hosts. Games are supposed to fun and Richard and Gene were fun! |

I agree, Dawsongirl, they were a lot of fun weren't they? They sure knew how to interact with the contestants and make them feel welcome and that is what made them so special. I also liked Bert Convy quite a bit, he was just more shy than the other hosts but he had a nice way, too.
I picked Gene Rayburn because I am more shy, hugs are great but the kissing of Richard Dawson would probably make me blush. LOL |

I have trust in Bob Barker, because, he'sets been around since the golden age of television, and he knows how to relate to contestants, and explain the rules about every single game in THE PRICE IS RIGHT. I know he kind of acts senile, but, he finds out in no time,if he says something wrong

Since Bob Barker isn't up on the list, I'll have to pick Richard Dawson. He did interact well with the other contestants.

Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit. Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit. Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger. [Eddie and Lumpy suppress laughter] Dale Midkiff is my man!

He's not on the list, but my favorite is Allen Ludden of "Password". He's witty, classy, and charming, and is never condescending to the contestants (I think Bob Barker is guilty of this sometimes). I like Dick Clark from "Pyramid", too, but he tends to be over-serious and a real stickler for the rules.
Gene is funny and doesn't take his show too seriously, which is a good thing, considering which show he hosts. Bert Convy seemed like a nice guy, and was obviously very comfortable hosting a bunch of different shows. I've never been able to warm up to Richard Dawson -- I've heard he's a jerk in real life. And Alex Trebek comes across as a pompous ass. Hey Alex, you have the answers right in front of you, so get off your high horse. |

As funny as it is, I agree that Alex Trebek had an attitude....and yes he was pompous. Very handsome man but terrible attitude.
