Life As We Know It
This dramatic situational comedy centers on four female friends, their husbands, and their children as they go about their everyday lives in Phildelphia, Pennsylvania. First off, there is the self-made event planner, Kathryn Woodsen (Sela Ward) and her college English professor husband, Tom (Tom Amandes) and their two daughters, the independent pre-med student Meghan (Amber Tamblyn) and the fiesty Marissa (Lindsey Shaw). Meghan is 24 and Marissa is 17. Tom and Kathryn's marriage is going steady and strong since day one, until Tom's recent birthday when he develops a midlife crisis (which ends up driving Kathryn up the wall). Next is the successful real estate agent Audrey Burkhardt (Rita Wilson) and her cardiothoracic surgeon husband, Richard (Richard Burgi) and their naive son, Joey (Graham Patrick Martin), 17. Audrey and Richard are high school sweethearts who are still each other's best friends, yet have let their ambitious careers overpower their once-idealistic marriage. Also, Richard is secretly conducting an affair with his colleague and wife's best friend, Rachel Sutton (Daphne Zuniga). Rachel works as an orthopedic surgeon at the same hospital with Richard. Rachel is married to her former college sweetheart-turned-husband, Steve Sutton (Scott Bakula), the locally famous radio disc jockey. Steve and Rachel have secretly turned their marriage into an open marriage for the past 2 years. They love each other, but aren't in love with each other anymore and staying in their marriage for two reasons: for their son, Nathan (Daren Kagasoff), 17, and for financial reasons. Lastly, the bank branch manager/loan officer, Veronica McBride-Allen (Gail O'Grady) and her radio disc jockey husband, David (Christopher Titus). David and Steve host their own late-night radio talk show. David and Veronica live with Veronica's 17-year-old son, Kyle McBride (Steven R. McQueen) from her previous marriage. David began dating Veronica when Kyle was 8 and has been more of dad than his biological dad has ever been to Kyle. Kyle has been long-time friends with Nathan, Joey, and Marissa. Kyle's bubbly girlfriend, Ally Gates (Chelsea Staub) often is over at the McBride-Allen home and hanging out with Kyle and his friends. To make matters more interesting, Kyle has befriended the new mysterious kid at school, Christian Carter (Ethan Peck) who happens to rub Nathan and Joey the wrong way, but catchs the eye of Marissa. Speaking of catching the eye of someone, Scott is newly embarking into a relationship with a younger woman (while Rachel has her secret affair with Richard, that Steve knows about but doesn't know who he is). The younger woman who is dating Steve is none other than Meghan Woodsen, the daughter of Kathryn and Tom. Watch how these four families battle the trials and tribulations of living their everyday lives.
