Default When UM was on CBS

To anyone's knowledge, were the segments shown on CBS ever rebroadcast? There were a couple of really cool ones that I would like to see again, but to my knowledge those were never shown on another network (Lifetime or Spike).

I would love to find some of those, especially when Virginia Madsen was on.

Too bad we will probably never see them again!

I don't have any real firm knowledge in this regard but I think that some of the segments were shown on Lifetime. For example, I KNOW the "chair of death" segment made it to Lifetime and that was definitely a CBS story. I also saw a Lifetime rebroadcast of a story about Y2K and the end of the world with a scrolling text saying "this story aired before 2000" or something like that. The original version of that story aired on CBS.

I also remember reading on here that the stories narrated by Virginia Madsen were edited to omit her and re-narrated by Robert Stack.

How long did Unsolved Mysteries last on CBS? I can't remember that many episodes on there. I remember one about Elvis and then I draw a blank. I barely even remember Virginia Madsen episodes. I knew she was on there but what did she do??

Two seasons (albeit two abbreviated seasons). CBS picked it up in 1997, only to cancel it in 1999.

Virginia Madsen was a co-host. During her short time on UM in 1999, there were usually five segments per broadcast, and she would alternate with Robert Stack. In other words, in each broadcast Stack would host/narrate the first, third, and fifth segments, while Madsen did the other two segments.

The CBS episodes were a bit of an oddity. They aired somewhat sporadically in late 1997, early 1998 and 1999. I'm not sure if CBS only ordered a limited amount of them made initially to see if the ratings were good enough to jump start a series, but that would be my guess.

The first CBS "season" consisted of 6 episodes (all were repeated again later that year). Robert Stack hosted all of them solo.

The second CBS "season" consisted of another 6 episodes. They were hosted by Robert Stack and Virginia Madsen as a co-host. Virginia Madsen's role on the show was minimal. If there were 5 stories in a given episode, she narrated 2 of them with the rest being narrated by RS.

Thank you both for that. No wonder I don't remember much about the CBS Unsolved episodes!

I remember when Unsolved Mysteries was on CBS. I believe it was on Fridays after Candid Camera and that show hosted by bill Cosby . "Kids say the Darndest Things" I believe that show was called.

I remember I liked the CBS episodes and they had the SAME spooky music as the original NBC episodes unlike Spike who changed everything.

CBS basically kept the episodes exactly like the original while Spike has changed quite a bit and most of it for the worse.

I wish CBS still had UM even if it were for just half an hour since that would be good for 2 to 3 segments.

Or even if NBC had it again.
