Cool I Met Christopher Knight!

This past Saturday (Oct. 17th) I went to the Big Apple Comic Con down in NYC and one of the people there I got to see was Chris Knight.

He was actually the first table I stopped at. I went to him, introduced myself, and told him that I was very sorry to hear of his father's passing and that I was glad to see that he was able to make the event.

He thanked me for my support and said he was glad that I was able to come down.

He then made out the autograph and charged $20.00 which was a lot cheaper than most others at the event.

I did not see his wife Adrienne at the event. He was sitting with one of the handlers, a woman, who was managing his money at his table.

I did not notice anything else he was selling other than photos; I believe that's all he had.

I think it's cheesy now that performers charge money for an autograph. That's just wrong.

Most event/convention signings cost a ton of money. I've been to a lot of these and this is the way it is.

Really, it comes down to your choice on if you are willing to pay for it. The "celebrity guests" go there to make money. I have seen some over the years knock down their price/give discounts while some don't charge for photos...

I don't think the autographed Chris Knight photo I got for $20.00 was bad at all; esp. when people like William Shatner was there charging $80.00 to take a photo with him.

Yeah, $20 is really nothing for an autograph at a convention. The celebrities are there to make money, and as an autograph collector, I just accept that.

From what I've heard, a lot charge now because so called "fans" were selling their autographs on eBay and making money off of them. It's sad when people ruin it for the REAL fans I know.

I've got two autographs actually from Jim Davis (both free) and I understand that Betty White doesn't charge (at least when you write to her).

I think they charge for a few reasons. Yes, I have heard that people selling the autographs on the internet is one of the reasons.

Another reason is that the money they receive might go towards charity. I forget his name but at the event where Chris Knight was there was one of the guys from Survivor, the big hippie guy with the big beard, who had a charity bucket at his table where you dropped the money in for him.

I also think that making these events more mainstream is the biggest reason.

I started going to events like these a little over a decade ago, around 1996-97. They were pretty small and weren't held in big venues; like a warehouse on the pier like the last one.

The "celebrity guests" back then were mainly obscure; really only known for sci-fi/horror related things. Most of these people never worked outside of that field and don't really make that much money. I remember paying for autographs from around $5.00 - $10.00 back then.

Nowadays these events seem to be attracting more mainstream celebrities; such as the San Diego Comic Con and Chiller down in New Jersey. Some of them are still obscure but they are getting a lot more famous people then what these kinds of events were meant to attract.

With more famous people being involved and them demanding money to be accomodated for them appearing the prices at these events go higher and higher.
