Oh yeah! I loved this game. I used to watch it on USA everyday after school when I was a kid. Great show; wish it was on the air somewhere.

Does anyone remember these 1960's NBC game shows, when NBC was THE place to be in the 1960's for game shows-1965's short-lived"Call My Bluff".(with the late Bill Leyden-an interesting game show which as the shows'producer the late Mark Goodson once said "It bombed over here, but was a big,BIG hit in England-",and the reason it bombed over here,it offered no prize money for the winners),hits 1966's "Eye Guess",with the late Bill Cullen, which lasted three years from 1966 to 1969,the original 1962-1969 version (and was far different from the CBS 1970's version)of "The Match Game"with the late Gene Rayburn(who also hosted the 1970's CBS version)as host,1966's "Personality"hosted by the late Larry Blyden, which lasted three years from 1966 to 1969 ,the ORIGINAL "$ale of the Century"hosted by the late Jack Kelly ("Maverick")and Joe Garagiola, which lasted from 1969 to 1974,"You Don't Say!"which lasted from 1963 to 1969,and starred Tom Kennedy, the original version with the late Art Fleming, which lasted from 1964 to 1975,and "The Who,What or Where Game(the 3 W's)",hosted by the late Art James, which lasted from 1969 to 1974.?And how about these flops from the 1960's on NBC?1966's "Showdown"(with someone named Joe Pyne as host),1967's "Reach for the Stars"(with someoned named Bill Mazer),and 1969's "You're Putting Me On"(with the late Bill Leyden as the first host-he was host until September when he was replaced by the late Larry Blyden until the series ended in December 1969-An interesting premise, which unfortunately led to the all-celebrity game shows of the 1970's)

I remember a lot of the shows you mentioned, including "Eye Guess" with Bill Cullen. It was Bob Stewart's first show as an independent packager and the first game show I remember well. I also remember "You Don't Say" and the original "Match Game", the one-two punch in late afternoon daytime that I remember watching after school. I remember watching "Sale of the Century", which was hosted by Jack Kelly and later Joe Garagiola. It had a long, healthy run until Lin Bolen decided to overhaul NBC's daytime game show line up.
The only things i remember about "Showdown" was it was hosted by nasty talk show host Joe Pyne and it featured breakaway seats, meaning that if a contestant missed a question, there seat would fall underneath the set. The game that replaced "Showdown" turned out to be a major success. The game show was "Hollywood Squares." As for "Personality" and "You're Putting Me On", both shows were hosted by Larry Blyden, though the latter was hosted by Bill Leyden, who later passed away. Both shows had all celebrities who played for viewers at home. I also remember the original "Jeopardy" with Art Fleming and Don Pardo as announcer. I'll always remember Fleming's line in Final Jeopardy "Please be sure it's in the form of a question." Following Jeopardy was "The Whot, What or Where Game" (aka "The 3Ws) with Art James. About "Call My Bluff", it also had Leyden as host but I never saw it. |
