Thought

Sorry, but I think you're a couple of DECADES out - Bea passed in 1968 so it would be 41 years since her passing.

(I know, because my own mother passed away Oct. 13, 1996 and my maternal grandmother on Oct. 13,1971; and God Rest their Souls along with Bea's)

God Bless her soul. Bea was such a wonderful talent and was magnificent as Kate. She carried that show. And on top of all this, she was a prolific voice over artist - practically a female Mel Blanc!

You're right I was twenty years off. That's what I get for being in a hurry.

Smile

^np - it was still a heartfelt tribute, and I'm sure Bea's smiling that beautiful smile of hers knowing it.

Same here, the show was just never the same without her. Like Andy Griffith without Barney....

TV

Bea gave us some great characters on radio, television and animated cartoons. From Millie's mother on Meet Millie to Blanche Morton on
Burns & Allen to Cousin Pearl Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies and
Kate Bradley (her most unforgettable role) on Petticoat Junction to
the original voice of Betty Rubble on The Flintstones and one of the
voices of Granny in the Tweety & Sylvester cartoons, Bea Benadaret was a
first-rate comedienne for many decades.

She was a great talent and reportedly a very sweet soul. I loved the way she worked with Gracie Allen, and the way she fought for the menfolk with Irene Ryan on Beverly Hillbillies; and who could forget her laugh as Betty Rubble.

But my favorite will have to be Kate Bradley. I loved the gentle soul she was to her beautiful Bradley girls and to poor lazy and unlucky Uncle Joe.

I still get misty-eyed when I watch her final episodes of Petticoat Junction--you can tell her health is failing, but she is putting in 110 percent and carrying the scene. I wish she could have lived longer and given us another season or two of PJ. Would have loved to see her as Grandma Kate!

I hope her son, actor Jack Bannon, realizes the love for his mother. It would be nice to interview him if Paramount opts to release Season 3 of Petticoat. He played on the show a few times, and of course went on to be part of the popular Lou Grant series.
