Exclamation Nicolas Cage Owes $6.3 Million in Back Taxes

On screen, he has battled everything from hardened convicts to vast conspiracies. Now Nicolas Cage is tangling with what may prove to be his toughest foe: the IRS.

The government has placed a tax lien on his vast real estate holdings because of $6 million in unpaid back taxes dating from 2007, the year of the 45-year-old actor's box office hits Ghost Rider and National Treasure: Book of Secrets, according to court papers.

In addition, the Internal Revenue Service has yet another lien for over $350,000 in unpaid taxes dating from 2002 to 2004.

as much as i respect actors for what they do on screen, their pay packets do not justify the type of work they are doing. it's not just actors though- many sports stars of today are grossly overpaid, it's ridiculous.

i think there should be a cap on actors, performers salaries and besides, it should be about talent and the ability to act, not the millions of dollars they rake in.

You're totally right. I lost a lot of interest in pro sports once I started working and paying bills. Listening to athletes whine about their salaries just irks me when so many others are just barely getting by. It's not fair.

so true monika! and to get paid to hit a ball or kick a soccer ball about like with david beckham, there's just something not right here. if many of these famous people cared at all, then they should consider putting some of that money they earn to charity or open a performing arts studio, sports centre, to help those wanting to get their foot in the door.

there are some celebs who do that, and there are those who don't. and those that don't are doing a disservice to their profession, or be it to themselves.

Exactly. I'd love to see how some of these hotshots would survive in normal people's shoes.

I was just in New Orleans this past week, where Nicolas owns a couple of homes. The tour guide said that the one lavish home we saw during the tour was under lien from his bank. Scary how the bad economy is affecting everyone!
