TV Update: TNT Officially Picks Up "Dallas" Reboot

Who Reshot J. R.?. Dallas Remake Planned
By BROOKS BARNES; Compiled by DAVE ITZKOFF
Published: October 8, 2009

Get out the heart paddles: Warner Brothers is once again trying to resuscitate J. R. Ewing and his bourbon-loving “Dallas” clan for its sister cable network TNT, according to a producer and an agent with knowledge of the project.

The show would focus on the next generation of Ewings, namely John Ross (the offspring of J. R. and Sue Ellen, for you “Dallas” neophytes) and Christopher (the adopted son of Bobby and Pam who, devotees will remember, is the progeny of Sue Ellen’s sister, Kristin, the famed shooter of J. R.).

As always with gestating creative projects, it’s no guarantee that TNT will pull the trigger on a full-blown series once the pilot is made. But members of the original cast — including Larry Hagman, above as J. R., Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy — have been contacted for their participation.

Some, if not all, are on board, at least with their blessing. Warner and TNT spokeswomen declined to comment.

I don't know about this. They'll probably recast John Ross and Christopher.

I loved Dallas when it first aired (well, I loved the first 5 seasons of it), but it's time has come and gone. I cannot see anything like this going over very well again. The characters we knew and loved are older and presumably won't be in it much, and the younger characters will be played by people we don't know and probably won't care about.

They are just using the name of Dallas in order to attract viewers. The series itself could be any run of the mill show, they just got lucky and can use the names of familiar characters. The days of night time soaps are a thing of the past.

and Leonard Katzman is dead so they will have someone who has no connection to the original show.

Why are revivals suddenly being labeled "remakes"??

Yeah, it's pretty much doomed from the start. The older fans won't recognize it and the younger viewers won't be lured in by a show that they don't have an emotional connection to.

Next!

TNT "Dallas" Update
by Chris Jordan
posted Sep 8th 2010

The big hats and big drama of "Dallas" are officially coming to TNT, according to a Turner press release.

The cable channel has ordered a reboot of the popular series in the form of a pilot that will focus on offspring of the "bitter rivals and brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing, who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance,'' according to the release.

The series will be shot by Warner Horizon Television, executive produced by Cynthia Cidre of "Cane" fame, and will feature the next generation of fighting Ewings.

Original stars Patrick Duffy (Bobby), Larry Hagman (J.R.) and Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) were reportedly approached about participating when news of the reboot first surfaced in 2009, but the current press release makes no mention of whether or not they're on board.

As much as I like Dallas I dont see this working either. The should had a great 13 year run, so leave it at that. Instead why dont they show the reruns.

^ Not to mention two reunion movies and a retrospective. I agree, what's the point of a revival??
