Oh No Columbus Day or Discoverers Day?

Next Monday, we celebrate Discoverers Day...wait, isn't it supposed to be Columbus Day?!

What the ****? I know that Columbus wasn't the first discoverer of the New World, but it's like when we merged Lincoln's Birthday and Washington's Birthday to make Presidents Day (Though this is slightly exceptional since we celebrate all Presidents as well).

But no one knew about the New World until 1492 and the Civilizations of the Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs were secret Civilizations that were slightly advanced for their time. And how did the Spaniards thank them...? By taking their damn gold, pillaging their lands, giving them diseases, and raping their women.

I STILL call it Columbus Day because of my heritage...well 12.5% of my heritage.

I just always call it Columbus Day and honestly I think it's stupid that "all of a sudden" they are turning around saying that the stuff about Christopher Columbus isn't true. I was just thinking about this today; wonder what they are telling the kids in school about Columbus Day, because we were taught that he discovered America and all that. Even if it's not true, it's a nice story anyway.

That's right! I had forgotten about that! I have told my husband a few times that we should go up to Canada on YOUR Thanksgiving just to see what it's like. So, out of curiosity, what is it like? Do you guys hoard yourselves with food the way we do?

Anyway, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Also, what about the Vikings?

I hate political correctness. This deal with re-doing holidays is more for the benefit of the PC tofu-types than for the indigenous ethnic groups and such they claim to represent. It's so bad that in Olympia, they're going to have a HOLIDAY tree instead of a Christmas tree this year. Don't want to offend the PC atheists.

I've never heard it called that. I guess I shouldn't be surprised with the way things are nowadays.

Oh God, I remember hearing about that! Remember the chaos that happened at Seatac airport when was it, last year? They freaked because that guy threatened legal action if they didn't add a menorah to the decorations so they took everything down then put it all back up again! I'm all for diversity and all that and I recpect different beliefs, but if I walked into a store or building at Christmas time (yes, I said CHRISTMAS! ) and saw only Jewish decorations, I wouldn't freak out and try suing the place! Seatac airport had a bunch of wimps working for them back then, IMO!!
My friend from out of state heard about that garbage on their local news and I was just appalled to see that it had made headlines around the country!

I remember that, it was insane.

Would Jewish travellers REALLY have a fit by seeing Christmas decorations??

Christmas isn't entirely a Christian holiday, many of its roots are found in paganism. Like that matters. Pray like a Christian, party like a pagan!!!
