Default Sixteen Candles

If you scroll down a ways, you will find a thread started by me called "Emily Dickinson". This post pertains to the first-season episode in which Blair tried to take credit for the work of this long-dead poet. The main thing that I concentrated on was how good she looked in a pair of slacks that she had on at the beginning of the episode! I found this esspecially appealing when her back was to the audience! Oh baby! Well, this managed to generate a response and I have since responded to this response. I then went on and started another thread called "My Friend Emily". In this thread I eleborated a little bit more about what I liked about the episode and the overall situation. So far this one has no replies and the number of views has stagnated at sixteen for quite some time. Usually when this happens, I, just for fun, start a new thread about a "Sesame Street" routine that I remember that pertains to this number. Within the past couple of hours, I have already done this on the pages of "Friends" and "Caroline in the City". However, at this point, I have decided to do something a little bit different on this page. I remember hearing a song on the radio called "Sixteen Candles". My guess would be that this song goes at least as far back as the sixties. During the eighties, there was a movie by the same name. I am not sure, but I think that the song and the movie are not related. Any thoughts anyone?

Sixteen Candles is a 1984 film written and directed by the late John Hughes and starred former FOL cast member Molly Ringwald. Jami Gertz, who played Boots during the fifth season of FOL, also appears in the movie. I'm guessing that Hughes named his film after the early 60's song of the same name.

That is one of my all time favorite movies.

I loved everything about "Sixteen Candles". I have all of the movie posters, DVD's, and blue rays, as well as other collectables. But there is one thing that is missing, and I will let Farmer Ted tell us what it is. "If you want to know the story, READ THE BOOK!!!" That's right. I was surprised when I found out that "Sixteen Candles" does not have a novelization. There is so much stuff about this story that the book can delve into. Was Ted's last name really Farmer? What about Gede Watanabe's insistence that there was a deleted scene where Long Duck Dong stood in for the DJ at the dance. Remember those breakdancers in the hallway at the school at the the beginning of the film? Those guys with the red outfits. They should have been on the dance floor. It was probably a simple oversight by John Hughs, because breakdanceing was really popular with all teenagers back then. And what really happened between Ted and Caroline before we cut to the parking lot scene the next morning? We could delve into future sequel concepts about the characters. How did it go between Samantha and Jake? Did they get married, or did they break up?
Or did Ted come back to school the next year as a completely normal person, and not a geek? The book can go 'off comedy' also as it could go deeper into the minds and feelings of the characters, especially Samantha. So, lets get some petition drive going. Let's recruit a good writer like John Hughs who is just as knowledgeable about 80's high school life, pop culture, and with a nostalgic touch.

Now before I get back to sitcoms, there is one more type of literature that can be created for "Sixteen Candles". Yes, there is a real connection to comic books. If you google an image of the UK quad poster for the film it's a montage of comic book pages, with the dialogue inside those white bubbles pointing to the character speaking. Now what I cannot find out is whether these books actually exist or not. If so, it's probably a UK product, and I haven't seen them.
Have you?

At various times the USA cable network was developing a sequel (“32 Candles”, “36 Candles”). Molly Ringwald was apparently interested, but Michael Schoeffling (Jake) had retired from acting and wasn’t going to be in it.

Interesting. Do you know if there any official story treatments, or perhaps any script material? Also, the first things that come up on Google about "Sixteen Candles" is a certain controversy about the film that I don't agree with. I have a post on Facebook about this if you want to take a look at it.
