Question Do you tell your Therapist about SO, if you see one?

I've been seeing a therapist monthly, for a year, mainly to cope with my health issues. She's a nice woman. Today, I told her about SO, and told her about some of my close friendships here. She was very surprised that I had never told her about it before, considering how long I've been here and how solidly attached I am to it, particularly as as Administrator.

How about you?

I don't see a therapist (although I sometimes think that I probably will see one at some point in my life) but if I did, I would probably mention places on the Internet such as SO. Interestingly enough, I haven't really mentioned this place to many people in my offline life - my parents know that I post on message boards but I haven't told them anything about SO specifically. If I did see a therapist or a counsellor, I would imagine that it's possible I would mention this website, even if only in passing.

I haven't told anyone, besides my sister and just recently a friend of mine. Last time I talked to my therapist about the internet, she told me I should be spending less time on it.

I don't see a therapist, but I'd probably mention online stuff like SO to him or her, because this place does consist of about a quarter of my social life, so it would have to be included.

However, no one in my family, or any of my offline friends know about this place. I just figured if I told my family, they'd all wanna join too lol. Not that that wouldn't be cool, but I just feel like I need my own places to visit online.

I'm trying to remember if I ever mentioned SO when I was seeing a therapist while I was in college. I'm not sure.

I'm not seeing a therapist, but I probably should, lol. I think I've mentioned to the doctor that prescribes medicine to me that I have a few online friends. I don't think I mentioned SO though. I assume I probably would mention this place if I were seeing a therapist on a regular basis.

I don't see a therapist, either. I tell my sister about SO, mostly to tell her about something I read on here, or about a certain thread or post. Sometimes I tell her about the hilarious stuff TJL comes up with!!

Alot of times when a celebrity dies, I seem to hear about it from SO before I even see it on the news. I'll tell her so-and-so died, and I saw it on SO.

Well if I were seeing one I certainly would since I enjoy it and its atypical of me as I'm not much of a computer person. When my computer died I missed it real bad but after a week the only thing that I really missed was here.

I'm definitely a hard core addict- if I don't get a hit a day I feel it. But in the scheme of things there are a LOT WORSE compulsions - & this is FUN and everyone is very nice here.

I go to therapy but have never mentioned this site, at least not directly.

When I was seeing one last year I told him all about it. Same with my family doctor. They both weren't surprised and actually seemed happy that I did have some sort of outlet to come to. I've told my brother and Frank. I don't give a darn if people think I'm nuts. Seriously, I consider at least two people I know only from the internet or by email my very best friends. They're the only two who've truly never "drifted" from me even by email.
Funny too, because I used to consider people who'd go to "chat" rooms some sort of social losers. I'm a very social person, but it just happens I fell in love with this site and some of its members when I happened to hit on it entirely by chance. It's the only one I am a member of so it's not like it's an obssession with me or anything.

Hell, I even have two pages and counting in my scrapbook dedicated to SO and my buddies here. It's become a very normal part of my life.

When I told a therapist about this place when I was 15, she broke confidentiality and told my mother because she was "concerned for my safety". I was refused to go back to her......and obviously I refused to obey her wishes as well being that I'm still on SO.

I'm lucky to have a therapist today who hasn't done that. I probably mentioned message boards a few times to her, about profound helpful things I found here and she encouraged me on using the internet positively. She said that I use the internet to help myself too. She just says don't stay up till 4 in the morning on it, which is what I would do when I was really depressed. I share some things I find via email with her. I even sent her a Michael Jackson speech that I found particularly moving.
