Movie Stallone's "Expendables" *2 New Stills*

Exclusive: New Expendables Image
And the latest from Stallone on the film

It's the action movie to end all action movies, starring pretty much everyone who's ever delivered a punch strong enough to knock down a fair-sized mountain. The Expendables is on its way, and we have a new image from the film and some quotes from Stallone himself on what we can expect come August 20, 2010.

On the title: "It's from Rambo 2. The girl I'm falling in love with says, “Why do you do what you do?” I say, “I'm expendable.” She says, “What does that mean?” I say, “It's like someone invites you to a party and you don't show up. It doesn't really matter.”

And these men, they live a life that... They're expendable. If they're gone, the world will go on. No one will miss them, They don't have families, all they have is each other. They're expendable to the rest of the world, but they're not expendable to each other – they're just necessary. So it's a real brotherhood. I think it has a lot of heart for an action film."

On the aim of the film: "What I wanted to do was just try to do something that is a little different. Today, technically, we're incredibly gifted and versatile with CGI, and I wanted to do a film that was more about men, doing things that we did back in the 80s and 90s that were a little more mano a mano – actual, physical stunts.

It's also a story that isn't super-gigantic; it's almost a believable story. And the thing was to find certain personalities that never would have worked together normally and put them all together. It's like the dream team. It just hasn't been done.

I guess it's kinda like The Dirty Dozen, or one of those films that comes along every once in a while – like The Magnificent Seven – to try to take that old formula and move it into a modern era. We accomplished it; I'm very, very happy with the film."

Expendables promo trailer blasts online!

"There is no plan…"

BY James White
Oct 14th 2009

An extended batch of promo footage from Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables has arrived online and you can peep it below.

It looks like a loosely cut trailer for the film, of the type used to sell it to distributors - and it's loaded with the sort of quick fire action (and humour) we can expect from the finished product.

Yes, get ready for a bone-crunching, bullet-pumping, bad-guy killing mash-up of explosions and fighting as a mercenary team fight to overthrow a South American dictator.

Everything's OTT here, and with the likes of Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke all aboard, it's like an '80s action movie got thrown into the future.

We'll have to wait until later next year to see it, but for now, go feast your eyeballs until they pop.

Lionsgate seems to be deleting the many YouTube videos of the promo footage due to copyright.

I managed to find another link that has it (posted above).

If you want to see it I'd recommend you watch it now and save it if you want.

The Expendables: Sly Talks Willis and Schwarzenegger's Characters
November 02, 2009

80's action stars, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, have got together on October 24 to shoot a scene for "The Expendables", and details on the scene have been shared by Stallone himself.

To Entertainment Weekly, the director/writer/star of the actioner provided further info about the characters Willis and Schwarzenegger take on among others.

Confirming that the scene takes place in a church, Sly revealed that Willis portrays the one who hires his mercenary group for the death-defying mission, while Schwarzenegger stars as his character's old rival.

Describing the scene in more detail, the 63-year-old gushed, "Bruce says 'Well, there's one other person I want to talk to before I hire you. And then Arnold, who plays my old rival, walks in."

"We have a history together," Sly continued explaining the fall-out his character has with Schwarzenegger's. "And we go back and forth and I tell him that I should have shot him a long time ago when I had the chance. Then it goes on from there. And here we are, the three of us trying to man up to one another, playing off of who we are, using our baggage in this one scene."

While the appearance of both Willis and Schwarzenegger is categorized as cameos, Sly went on to state that it may last for "about 5 minutes of screen time."

On the short 6 hours of shooting for the scene, the actor recalled, "We only had them for that one day and then Bruce had to go off to Istanbul and Arnold had to go back and do his governmental stuff. But I was impressed because they got up at 5:30 in the morning to do this."

Prior to Sly's comment on the scene, a written description on where the filming took place and how it went had been posted at Ethelmae's Blog. The set was set up "in Hollywood at the Hollywood Presbyterian church on Gower, which is about a 35 minute drive from Hermosa Beach", part of the report read. "Bruce looked amazing - very fit, beautiful bald head and that smirky smile...Arnold had a stogie in his mouth, a giant watch on his arm and was constantly making jokes."

"The Expendables" centers on a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Soon after their mission begins, the group led by Barney Ross realizes things aren't quite as they appear and finds themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal.

Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Brittany Murphy, Charisma Carpenter and Randy Couture are among the star-studded cast ensemble.

It targets a U.S. release on August 20, 2010.

It has been revealed that the late Brittany Murphy, as well as Miley Cyrus' boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, have been cut from The Expendables.

I watched the previews already at Wu Tang Clan's website today and i liked what i saw. I'm gonna check it out. It's good to see a action flick like this coming to theatres because there's not that many action movies coming to theatres anymore. Props to Sylvester Stallone for keeping action movies alive. Only action stars that are missing from this movie that it would be nice to see them in this is Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme.

From what I have heard Stallone wanted Van Damme and Seagal to appear in this but it didn't work out.

Van Damme said in an interview why he turned it down:

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie, but I ask him about the subject, about the story.”

“He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be.”

“He said, ‘You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.’ so I said: ‘Sly, what is my character?’ So I didn’t do the movie.”

Steven Seagal turned it down because of a feud he has with one of the film's producers.

Seagal and this producer, Avi Lerner, had a fight over Seagal's straight-to-video movies and he didn't want to do anything that would put any money in this producer's pocket.

LOL@Van Damme didn't care about the money he was gonna be getting if he had done the movie hahahahahahahahahahahaha. He should care about the money. Stallone said he was gonna pay him a lot and that's all that matters. LOL@him tripping about Stallone not telling him what his character was gonna be hahahahahahahahaha. LOL@Steven Seagal didn't want the producer of The Expendables to get more money than him hahahahahahaha. I don't know why Steven would get upset about that. He was gonna get paid. So why is he tripping about minor stuff like that? Some of these actors kill me with their egos.

Besides, who wants to be in a movie with Stallone, Willis, Li, and Statham...when you've already worked with the greats like Rob Schneider and Dennis Rodman...

What kind of a role was Van Damme expecting? I'm sure Stallone wanted him for his fighting and not some dramatic piece... but if this is true Stallone could have been more clear with what he wanted him to do.

According to what I have heard this feud with Seagal and this producer goes back to the mid-2000s. They didn't agree over script changes and the use of audio-dubbing for some of the movies.

I've heard that Seagal was very interested in doing the movie but once he heard that this guy was one of the producers he was like "No."
